Weight Loss Guide: The Key to Weight Loss!

Maintaining balanced weight is every person’s wish. However, the junk food culture has made it very tough and losing weight has become even tougher. Excessive weight invites many diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks that can even lead to death. In addition to this, obesity builds up negative thoughts of guilt in obese people, which leads to stress and depression.

The following tips will help you to determine the key to weight loss and guide you to lose your weight:

First of all, it is necessary to come out with an effective weight loss plan. This includes some changes in your daily routine and your diet.

Be patient while the process of weight loss is on. Weight loss cannot be achieved in few days. Some people will lose weight very easily but for some, rigorous activities are required.

Never go in for crash diets. Its effects will be seen initially but after few days you will suffer from weakness, dizziness, your energy levels will go down and you will then crave for food even more.

Maintain a diary and list down whatever things you eat in a day. This will help in checking out your daily calorie intake. Moreover, this way you will become more disciplined, structured and organized and you will get an idea about which food is good for you and which is not.

Keep short and realistic goals like losing 1 kg in 10 or 15 days and not losing 5 kg in 1 week. Make plan for these days and execute it accordingly. You will definitely see changes. Then when first goal is achieved then set another goal. This way you will not get bored and you will feel more focused and determined to achieve your final objective of losing weight.

Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. If you feel hungry then instead of going for some junk foods eat healthy foods like raw fruit, salads, nuts etc.

Eat freshly made home cooked food. Say no to ready-to-cook and packaged foods.

Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to keep yourself hydrated. For the number of days you have made a weight loss plan for, drink only water for consuming fluids. Completely avoid fruit juices (fresh or packed), aerated or carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, and even alcohol. If you desire then you can have green tea. This is because you take more calories in the form of liquids than solid foods.

Physical exercises like jogging, jumping, running, walking, and swimming, skipping, yoga etc will help you to burn fats and increase your metabolic rate. This way your energy will be boosted.

Mental exercise is as important as physical exercise. De-stress yourself through relaxation techniques like meditation, spa, massages etc.
Consult your family doctor before going for any diet plan or exercises. He is the best person for you to guide as he knows yours and your family’s health history and will recommend you with suitable plans.

In short, we can say that excess weight comes with many physical and mental problems. If you are able to cope with obesity then nobody can stop you from living a healthy and prosperous life.

Stay in shape with perfect regime

Weight loss and getting into shape has become a universal mantra these days and many people are opting for workout sessions and weight loss programs. The common challenge here is sticking on to the regime. It is easier to start on a perfect fitness regime, and then lose interest owing to a busy functioning schedule, or a busy public life, and many other such factors. How do you keep that weight off is the biggest challenge which everyone is currently facing.

Find out your Fitness Level
It is the most important thing to do before you start on any exercise or health regime. Visit your healthcare professional or physical trainer before getting started, as they will be able to guide and help you in assessing your fitness level and find a regime that would positively suit you.

Implement your workout schedule
The most evident answer to this, as the fitness instructor suggests, is to get up earlier, and use that time to exercise, or perhaps go in for a late workout session at the gym, or set up some exercise equipment at home, so that you can work out while you watch TV.
The actual secret to maintain your newfound shape is to keep on exercising with constant dedication and will power.

Tackle your taste buds
Your diet is the second factor, which needs to be tackled. Changes in your diet will put you right back on the track. Little changes and a few indulgences can take care of your exercise regime. Don’t be extremely rigid with yourself when it comes to the diet factor as it would only lead to more indulgences, do have what you need to have but limit the quantity; concentrate more on the quality of food rather than the quantity.

Make changes in your lifestyle
A lifestyle change is sure to add up to your weight loss program, and you would see that, without even being aware of your helpful habits, you continue to maintain your shape for a simple reason that it became your lifestyle. So do get in those little changes in your lifestyle, which would ensure you stay in shape, and stick to your perfect regime.

Discover a regime you would benefit from
For this, you need to explore and find out what is it that benefits your body. It may be hitting a fitness center, or taking up strength or aerobic training, or opting for high-energy regimes like karate, kickboxing, meditation, yoga, etc. There are also a whole lot of other options like walking, hiking, bicycling, dancing, swimming, jogging, gardening to name a few.

Staying in shape should be something that you need to work on all through your life, and a perfect routine will certainly help you attain that objective. Even though your fitness regime may only consist of a short run every day, it does not really matter, as fitness is not about getting the perfect body, it is about a general physical state where in you feel more active and lively, in addition to making your body feel and look good.
In the end, staying in shape with a perfect regime is unquestionably the right way to gain that sense of pride and confidence.

Skipping breakfast: Helps in losing weight?

In today’s hectic scheduled life, we often forget to eat our breakfast. Mornings are too busy with preparations for the office or college or forcing your kid to have his breakfast.

Well, the reality is that a good and balanced breakfast not only keeps you energized for the whole day but also helps in losing weight. Health experts warn people from skipping their breakfast as it upsets the whole routine of body. Dieticians say that people who skip breakfast are so starved by mid morning or afternoon that they end up binge at lunch and dinner, thus taking more calories.

According to a study conducted by the National Weight Control Registry, people who take breakfast, continue with a weight loss of 30 pounds or even more for as long as a year. Especially women eat less throughout the day if they breakfast.

Taking breakfast also jump starts the metabolism of your body. When you skip breakfast, you actually go without food for more than 15 hours which is not good for the body.

Now that we know well the urgency of having breakfast, let us dwell upon the items which will fill our plates in the morning. High fiber food like vegetables, whole grains and fruits are highly recommended as breakfast. In these fiber rich materials, we get energy sans the fats.

So, include oatmeal, walnuts, strawberries and low fat yogurt you get a good amount of nutrition to kick start your day in an energetic attitude and win through the day. Recommended portions are: one cup of oatmeal, one cup of yogurt and a cup of sliced strawberries. Alternately, you can take two multi grain waffles with three tablespoons of light syrup, a cup of plain-low fat yogurt and one cup of blueberries. This will give as much calories as a regular bagel and cream cheese breakfast which has around 450 calories.

You can take sugary cereals as they would serve you better than skipping your breakfast but the best bet is 3-5 grams of high fiber cereal. You can also mix the cereals with some sugary yogurt and get a decent breakfast.

Other good options are banana with peanut butter yogurt, oatmeal with fruits or some peanut butter and strawberries rolled into a tortilla. You can also have berries with ice, milk or yogurt. Egg white sandwiches are also good starters for the day on your plate.

For a faster, healthier breakfast, get some whole grain muffins and add cooked eggs and low fat cheese to get a breakfast that you can even drive through.

Having given several easy and fast options for breakfast, we hope you will no longer skip that important meal of the day. If you are not as much of a health conscious as you would want to lose weight, the instructions stand unchanged for you as well. As discussed earlier, having breakfast improves your metabolism rate and helps in effectively losing more weight at a constant rate.

Sensible Diet Tips: Where Diets Go Wrong?

Controlled and balanced diet is a favorite to the people, who are willing to lose their extra weight. Weight loss is directly proportional to going on a diet; this may be true in some people but not always. People feel that if they want to lose weight they have to stop eating or may be eat less so that their body will burn down the fat that has settled down inside. These misconceptions are true to a certain extent but do not work on all people always. Follow some basic guidelines and lose weight and do not do excess of everything. This is the mantra for good health and thin body. Let us see where people go wrong in following a diet and how it can be corrected.

1.) Guilty candy:
Many people following a diet would try to run away from candy, chocolates, and sweet foods. They crave for it from the inside but just because they are on a diet, they do not eat it. The main aim should be in killing that craving, so to solve it take the bar of candy, eat a portion of it, and throw away the rest. Your craving is satisfied and you do not put on as well.

2.) Hunger attack:
People go on a crash diet and then get hungry all of a sudden, as they see good food. Sometimes to curb this down, you should wait for 2-5 minutes and see if the hunger is passing away. Sometimes it is just a momentary thing that you are very hungry. If it passes away, you are saved from eating many calories. If it does not, eat a small healthy snack only sufficient to fill your stomach a bit and pass away the hunger.

3.) Make a resolution:
Sometimes people jump into the pool of methods to lose weight without planning. You need to plan and make a resolution on how much you want to lose and in which areas of the body. Make a resolution as to you want to lose 50 pounds in total, then decide on how many pounds per week you should lose and so on. This will help you focus on your goal and lose the exact weight you want to.

4.) Water the savior:
Water assists you in weight loss. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water every day and see the difference in weight soon. Water will give you the feeling of fullness and when you drink it before a meal, it will help you eat less. It washes out the toxins and hence helps reduce the fat content.
Following a good diet program is essential but going overboard and not eating anything or very less is not good. That makes losing weight even more difficult and you body will not burn the excess fat as you feel. Instead, you may face other health issues. Follow a healthy diet and consume fewer calories. Exercise regularly to burn down the calories in your body and that shall help in weight loss automatically. Follow the above tips and be a sensible person who wants to lose weight and stay healthy.

Kick Start Your Weight Loss Program!

With the invention of all types of junk and packaged foods people are now becoming more and more prone to diseases. The main reason behind these diseases is obesity. Excess weight has become an enemy for the people. Diabetes, high blood pressure, joint pains, strokes are nothing but the repercussions of excessive weight. So, in order to never suffer from these diseases and if you have any then getting rid of them, you will have to kick start a weight loss program which will lead you to a healthy and safe life.
Weight loss programmes are difficult but not impossible. Many people start these programmes rigorously but after few days they give away very easily. So, it is important to be determined to lose weight and get a healthier and leaner body. The following tips will help you to kick start your weight loss program:
Firstly, never keep a huge or unachievable goal in front of you like losing 5 kg weight in just a week. Start with fewer goals like losing 1 kg in 15 days. This will not only help you to be determined but also will encourage you as you will see the desired result at the end of fifteenth day. Then after 15 days, set another goal like losing 2 kg in 28 days. This way you will realize your capacity and will not get bored of the changed daily routine.
Then second step is to keep a record of whatever you are eating. You will feel awkward for the first few days but later you will understand what all good and bad things you are eating and what all exercise will be needed to burn those extra calories. Maintaining a diary will help you to become disciplined and organized as this habit will benefit you in the longer run. After few months you will realize that you do not require maintaining a record. This will become your habit naturally.
Drink water and nothing else (not even fruit juices) for the days you have set the goal for. After few days you will definitely lose an inch or two. This is because we consume more calories in the form of liquids than from solid foods. Avoid drinking alcohol, packaged fruit juices and aerated or carbonated drinks.

Avoid junk foods. Eat only homemade and fresh cooked food. Include fruits and salads in your diet. Lessen the intake of spices. Keep away oily and preservative foods.
Physical exercises like yoga, jogging, running, jumping, walking, skipping, stretching, and swimming should be done for about 45 minutes to one hour daily. You can combine all these or few of these exercises to gain a faster result. Meditation and relaxing techniques like massages will keep you mentally fit.
In short, it can be said that focusing on your plan and not giving up too early will definitely work wonders for you. Just remember that if your plan is same for all days then your body gets used to it. So, results will be visible only for early days of your regime but after few days no improvement will be seen. So, keep things changing. Things should be done in a different way and with changing intensity levels to get desired results.

phen375 clinical Trial

Not too long ago I’ve been asked about our clinical trial details, does phen375 do the job? Let us check out the details and work out a qualified decision considering information rather than speculate work or rumour. Now we’re going to go over clinical trial info, manufacture information and consumer responses. Using this data we will be able to get a qualified viewpoint about phen375 will it actually work!
Why don’t we take a look at what clinical trial usually means, I copied this from wiki.
Clinical trials are carried out to allow for safety and usefulness data being gathered for brand new drugs or devices. These studies are only able to be held once satisfactory information has been accumulated on the level of quality of this product as well as non-clinical safety, and Health Authority/Ethics Committee approval is given in the country in which the trial run has taken place. With respect to the sort of product and also the phase of its development, researchers recruit healthy volunteers and/or patients into little pilot studies at first, followed by larger sized studies in individuals that usually evaluate the new product or service with the presently prescribed treatment method. As favourable safety and efficiency facts are collected, the amount of patients is normally increased. Clinical studies can differ in proportion coming from a solitary center in a single country to multicenter studies in several countries.
The following products all make use of the very same basic molecular structure and therefore are grouped in the very same category of phenethylamines. Medical descriptions of Phenethylamine (PEA) are a natural monoamine alkaloid, trace amine, and psychoactive drug with stimulant benefits. Inside the mammalian nervous system is actually a kind or group of from the fundamental exact same family, with the exact same or identical components. In laymen’s words Phenethylamine (PEA) is actually a stimulant; it does work on your own central nervous system to raise heartbeat, blood pressure level and the body temperature or metabolic functions.

Here are a few of the products which you most likely are aware of and also have read a little something about and a few you might not recognize in any way, but they all are sort of pen family. Do they really all work very similar and identical in way in general? (Certainly). Now phen375 also uses a (PEA) molecular framework just as the others. You must understand there are many possible mixtures of substances included in the production pharmaceutical top quality products, every product might include or exclude one or two dependant on their distinct requirements.

Think of it as preparing a cake, you would like to use pecans and the other might go for walnuts. Both of them are fantastic cakes and fundamentally are the same.(Correct)!!!
phen375 similar to the simplified explanation of these two cakes being baked is actually precisely the same. When we’re talking about the usage of (PEA) molecular framework within chemical or molecular make-up, these are generally all products in the very same family; phentemine, Adipex-P, Ionamin , Phentermine , Micromedex , Phentermine, Adiphene , Phentermine, Adipex-P, Ionamin, Duromine . Every one of these products are chemically equivalent within their formula, or even the same.  Other are changed to fulfill the respective government agencies conditions. Some on the other hand happen to be a little changed and further components added.phen375 has about three other key or active substances added .Others talked about in this particular conversation don’t have our exclusive substances in their  formulations. This is just what really makes phen375 a supper product, while some are just renamed or rebranded. Basically the vast majority of you recognize them  by their brand names or generics label. phen375 in fact has tackled some more issues in addition which were left out by the other pharmaceutical drug manufactures.
The products we’re talking about all have medical trial or pilot data, very well established and recorded. phen375 had not been required by the FDA or EFSA , Why basically because there are actually hundreds previously completed , it has been decided they are safe and sound for human consumption in appropriate amounts.
What goes on in clinical trials? Generally X amount of product has been taken by X amount of persons therefore you receive the Y amount of complaints received data created. Based on that facts every pharmaceutical or biotech corporation will make final decisions based on that info. They are going to submit those findings to their respective government organizations and they often release their results to the general public on their own findings.
Some will have little control groups even though other may have a far more official clinical trial enduring for several years and hundreds or even thousands of contributors. phen375 currently is accumulating details or pilot data however, not concerning the usage of (PEA) Phenethylamine . There’s plenty of data regarding this already and no requirement to do one more, it is previously been permitted to be used for human consumption. It is kind of like announcing normal water is wet, it can just be wet or could it be extra wet than usual, No it can’t be wetter could it ? phen375 does prepare to undergo clinical trials, but only after we’ve gathered enough pilot data on added substances included in our secret formula of phen375. It is to demonstrate the incredible weight reduction which is being reported to us. Typically consumers are averaging 5 pounds each week, when following the phen375 diet plan advised to use with the phen375 product.
Phenethylamines (PEA) possible unwanted side effects
All medications that contain phenethylamines(PEA) could potentially cause unwanted side effects. However, many persons have no, or insignificant, adverse reactions. Consult your personal doctor if any one of these most commonly encountered side effects aren’t regarded being minor. Most of the time the side effects fade after a couple of doses however, if the negative effects continue or turn out to be troublesome when using phenethylamines quit use and speak to your physician.
Terrible taste in the mouth nasty much like a chemical substance or petrol taste; changes in sexual drive typically boosts erections in men as a result of enhanced blood pressure produced by the stimulation in the nervous system; bowel problems; diarrhea; problem getting to sleep; wooziness; dry up mouth area; exaggerated feeling of well being; headaches; erection problems; anxiety; overstimulation; restlessness; insomnia; distressed stomach. intense allergic attacks (rash; hives; itchiness; trouble breathing in; tightness within the chest area; swelling of your mouth, facial area, lip area, or tongue); unusual behavior; chest ache; fainting; rapid pulse rate; pounding inside the chest area; shortness of breath of air; swelling of your feet and legs; tremor. Cardiovascular system: Primary pulmonary hypertension and/or regurgitant heart valvular disorder, palpitation, tachycardia, blood pressure level. Central Nervous hardly ever psychotic symptoms at suggested dosage amounts.
Phenethylamines(PEA) generates central nervous system stimulation . This is obtained from a written and published study of phen375 , 50 ladies with refractory unhealthy weight been given apettite supressants resinate for a time period of twenty weeks. About three defaulted through the research caused by incapacitating severe headaches without having considerable difference in blood pressure levels. Two more individuals defaulted because of problems of being easily annoyed. A double-blind medical trial of apettite supressants and fenfluramine involving eighty one individuals with very simple weight problems claimed a number of CNS complaints from individuals using apettite supressants resigned while in the research (26 complaints throughout the very first six weeks in the research). The volume of problems decreased over time throughout case study. Only seven claims of CNS side effects were being noted at 20 weeks. Complaints reported by clients involve get to sleep troubles, anxiety, depressive disorder, tiredness and increased dreaming.
You now realize i hope this is truly one of many medical trials reports already written and published. This has been effectively reported and essentially we aren’t seeking to cover up anything at all. I possibly could have stuffed many more pages with studies but they are all fundamentally the identical. Does Phenethylamines(PEA) deliver the results Certainly, can it have probable unwanted effects naturally. It will be not possible to stimulate your rate of metabolism without having running into and possible unwanted effects. If you performed a medical trial on Diet coke, Candy or perhaps Pizza you are likely to get very similar unwanted effects. Now unquestionably should you have any health issues make sure you check with your physician before thinking about any type of stimulate.
To summarize we’ve learned that Phenethylamines(PEA) are extremely powerful stimulates to the central nervous system. We understand that phen375 works by using Phenethylamines(PEA) included in the formula also. The data of all of the studies, blind trials all indicate identical results whenever using Phenethylamines(PEA). phen375 will likely be no different; we are going to have very similar or even the exact same unwanted effects. I should also mention the most obvious, should the product doesn’t have these probable uncomfortable side effects it is almost certainly not likely to deliver the results. How could you activate one’s metabolism working with stimulates with no unwanted effects? You can’t, just consider sipping decaffeinated coffee, it’s had the stimulate particle taken off and no more effects your central nervous system. Caffeine free coffee will never help you stay awake, it can’t literally simply because its stimulate effect is no more there. The exact opposite applies for phen375 we’ve added in pharmaceutical class synthesized substances to boost your metabolic process and fat reduction practical experience. Now you’ve see the facts, we didn’t publish them, but we make use of the very same Phenethylamines(PEA) stimulate . Now there is no doubt it’s going to deliver the results, the truth: undisputable a multitude of people’s experiences can’t all be completely wrong.

The reason why this happens is because the guarana seed contains natural fats and isn’t easily soluable in fluid. As a result the body takes it in very slowly. Due to the fact the guaranine is absorbed slowly and gradually, the power boost you obtain coming from guarana isn’t similar to the one you get with coffee with its fast rush and prompt drop off.

However guarana shall perform gradually and intensify over hours.
Chromium Polynicotinate increases fat and carbohydrate metabolism to provide more effective weight reduction control. Diet Pills Best are able to show that Clinical evidence displays that chromium picolinate could well help people combat cravings and hunger urges for carbohydrate food.

Discover How a Quick Weight Loss Can Be a Healthy Weight Loss – Phase III

We left off with my last article of “Discover How a Quick Weight Loss Can Be a Healthy Weight Loss – Phase II”. In review, you learned how to exercise regularly in order to ensure that your healthy weight loss is also a quick weight loss. Now, we are on to Phase III of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. What is the third and final fitness tuning path that I must pursue after you have adopted a complete and healthy diet and a regular workout routine? What is the last and final path towards your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss?

Phase III of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey is your intake of fluids. Ok, stop the presses! You mean that what I drink actually matters when it comes to a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss? The answer is yes, big time! Everyone knows that you must hydrate yourself in order to survive. In fact, everyone knows that you can die of dehydration sooner than you can die of hunger. So, the fluids that you put into you body are extremely important when it comes to the success of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. In fact, fluid intake is critical upon the success or failure of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss endeavor.

Water is the first key liquid in your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey’s success. Water is extremely important when it comes to your body. First of all, you body is 80% water. Without a constant intake of water, your body would eventually start shutting down until you died. So, we take water pretty seriously when it comes to a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss. Water hydrates your body, is used to flush toxins from your system, and keeps your lungs moist during cardiovascular activity. It is recommended to take in 8 – 10 8oz. glasses of water per day, and I recommend that you start doing so. Your body must have plenty of water to do its part in achieving a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss. Take a large water bottle and a cup with you to work. When the water bottle is empty, then refill it. Having the water present will encourage you to drink it more often. Your body will thank you for it by flushing out the toxins from your system that can actually impede upon the success of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey.

Coffee and soda must be eliminated from your diet to succeed in your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. Soda should only be had occasionally as a reward for your hard work. For me, I have a soda when I have pizza, and that is about it. Your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss is dependent upon a minimum amount of caffeine intake, and increased water intake when drinking caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic, and will actually pull the water from your body. This is extremely bad when it comes to your body operating at top efficiency while you’re exercising. Believe me, you will feel the difference! I will treat myself to the occasional energy drink in replacement of my afternoon snack mentioned in Phase I. However, your journey towards a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss will be an unpleasant one with too much caffeine intake.

Green tea is the best and highest recommended caffeinated beverage that you can have for your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. Most of them are even decaffeinated! I would recommend that you have 3 – 4 cups of hot green tea per day. Studies have shown an increase in energy levels and metabolisms for subjects who took in certain quantities of green tea on a daily basis, which also resulted in reduction of body fat content. The study showed that for positive results, 3 cups per day were necessary for a 156 lb. subject. (More information on the health benefits of green tea will be made available to members of my website listed below.) However, in relation to your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey, you have just found your replacement for coffee!

For those of you that want something more to drink during your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey… When it comes to fitness tuning, you want to choose wisely about what you put into your body, and not base your decision upon taste alone. Unfortunately, the majority of people base their beverage choices on taste and usually upon it being a sweet taste, which means too much sugar. However, there are a few key beverages that can give you some flavor variety, as well as give you a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss boost as well!

POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice – Packed with cancer fighting anti-oxidants, and was rated as the top source of anti-oxidants of all beverages on the market.

Vitamin A & D Organic Milk & Organic Soymilk with Calcium – Fatty acids, calcium, Vitamin A & D, as well as isoflavones and protein with the soymilk, give you more health benefits than you can shake a stick at.

Tropicana Essentials Fiber, Heart, & Antioxidant Advantage – Packed with Vitamin C, the Essentials line of Tropicana orange juice offers a wide variety of health benefits tailored for your specific needs.

Sobe No Fear (Sugar Free) – I have found this to be the best of the energy drinks on the market for me. I don’t drink them every day, but they serve well on a jam-packed day of 10+ hours of work followed by time at the gym. (Remember: drink extra water when drinking caffeine!)

Gatorade Performance Series & Propel Fitness Water – Jam packed with electrolytes, I try to drink the Performance Series an hour before my workout, and follow my workout with a Propel Fitness Water.

Changing the quality of fluids taken into your body each day is the final path toward your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. You now have at your disposal the three phases to your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss success. Ensure that you adhere to the promise that you have made to yourself, and ensure that you follow all three paths. Your success in your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey is dependent upon you and you alone. Further information will be distributed to members of my free membership site listed below. You will gain access to fitness tuning nutrition, dieting, and fitness information, including information relating to all three phases of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. So, embark on your journey and lead the way to your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss success!

Eating Disorders and the Internet

Introduction

This article examines the rise of eating disorder websites. Eating disorders are most common in young women (both teenagers and young adults). As this demographic is a also known as a high-level user of the Internet, the proliferation of online eating disorder (ED) communities is of particular concern to ED support groups (ANAD 2006). Eating disorder communities are known a ‘Pro-Ana’, (pro-anorexic) and it is the term used both for their community and to describe an individual. While Pro-Ana is used to describe a person who is ‘pro-anorexic’, Bulimics use the term Pro-Mia (pro-bulimic). In this definition, people who identify as ‘Pro-Anorexic’ or ‘Pro-Bulimic’ embrace their eating disorder and generally consider it a lifestyle choice and not an illness or disorder. Pro-Ana communities are not generally limited to anorexics and generally include bulimics and other eating disorder sufferers within the community.

Pro-Ana websites represent themselves as online communities for those who are existing Anorexics and as such are not intended (as is frequently assumed), to lure non-sufferers into the illness. To the people who join them, they can be ‘a place’ that accepts their status without moral censure or social stigma as well as a site of advice, tips and support from fellow anorexics to help them become ‘better’ anorexics. While some of the Pro-Ana sites will also provide links to recovery and health sites, being ‘Pro-Ana’ symbolises a choice not to go into recovery. For pro-Anorexics, if you identify as ‘Pro-Ana’, then by definition you have chosen to live as an Anorexic or Bulimic at this point in time. The term ‘permarexic’ can also be used to describe those people who choose to live with their ED for the foreseeable future.

Eating Disorders Overview

Eating disorders (EDs) are characterised by a preoccupation with weight that results in severe disturbances in eating and subsequently other behaviours. Eating disorders embrace Anorexia, Bulimia and generic eating disorders such as purging, binging and night eating. The two most high profile eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Anorexia can be defined as essentially self-starvation, as this disorder involves a refusal to maintain a minimally normal body weight, a distorted body image and a fear of obesity or weight-gain (CEED 2006). People who have Anorexia generally develop unusual eating habits such as avoiding food and meals, picking out a few foods and eating them in small amounts, weighing their food, and counting the calories of everything they eat. Its incidence is increasing in the Western world and it has been described as one of the most lethal psychiatric disorders (Lucas et al 1999 in Hsu 2001). Sufferers of Bulimia are involved in repeated episodes of binge eating, followed by ways of trying to purge the food from the body to prevent expected weight gain by utilising methods such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, enemas, or medications fasting, and/or excessive exercise to control weight (CEED 2006).

Common Aspects of a Pro-Ana Website

In order to research this article, I had to spend some time following dead links and doing diligent searching until I came across some functioning sites that catered to existing eating disorder sufferers. The nature of the public’s attitude towards many of these sites is such that they must change addresses constantly to avoid censure, or close voluntarily as a result of harassment and flaming, or are being arbitrarily closed down by their ISPs. The Pro-Ana communities manage to stay alive by frequently changing site addresses and communicating new web addresses within their community group.

Diaries: Many author’ of these websites offer personal accounts of their battle with anorexia or bulimia and how they struggle with starvation, how they feel about their body image and how they wrestle with taking control of themselves and their self-image. While the intention of some may well be to inspire weight loss among the website readers, the constant struggle and self loathing and self-castigation of the writers does not make Anorexia or Bulimia appear at all attractive. The diaries are also places to keep logs of food intake as well as ‘vent’ about unwelcome attempts by family members or friends to make the blogger recover from the disease, or the struggles she has in hiding her lack of eating from the rest of the world.

Discussion Forums: So that members can discuss their eating, their weight and their feelings. The forums act as both a source of dietary information and dieting support as well as somewhere to share their feelings and disclose in a non-judgemental environment. I observed the members to be very supportive and protective of each other.

Weight Loss Tools: Such BMI (Body mass index) calculators, homeopathic remedies and pharmaceutical pills. However, a search of Google on any given day will reveal similar information on many sites unrelated to Pro-Ana.

Food and Beverage Hints: Glycemic counters, calorie counters, lists of foods that are of negative calorie value, recipes for drinks and foods. In fact, all the things you can buy in the average women’s or girls’ magazine at your local newsagent.

A Recovery Room: a discussion forum specifically for recovering eating disorder sufferers. I only found this on a handful of sites.

The more militant Pro-Ana websites would typically contain some of these additional attributes:

Tips and Tricks: Mostly a list of methods, tricks and hints on how to make the process of starvation easier. It may give hints on hiding weight loss from relatives and how to pass weekly weigh-ins if parents make a teenager go to a nutritionist or counsellor. These lists may also contain explicit details on how to vomit after meals with the least amount of discomfort or on what to take to make the vomiting occur more quickly, as well as listing which foods are easiest to purge. This section will also contain tips for ways of avoiding eating and not getting caught (e.g. get up early and rinse cereal and milk around in a bowl and leave in the sink so your parents think you ate before them).

Thinspiration does exactly what the name implies: inspire readers to be thin, achieving this through pictures of unhealthily skinny models and movie stars. Favourites are pictures of young celebrity role models, including teen stars Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton and Nicole Ritchie. Thinspiration may also include articles on being fat, famous people’s height and weight, and triggering quotations such as ‘Nothing tastes as good as thin feels’, or ‘Food hinders progress’. Some Pro-Ana websites also encourage the use of a personal ‘Thinspiration book’ to always carry around as a means of remembrance when the person cannot be near a computer or they suggest the wearing of bracelets to signify the particular eating disorder and remind the wearer of her status (red for example signifies Anorexia and purple Bulilmia). The less militant sites do not contain ‘Thinspiration’ and may also ban tips and caution users that they will be banned if they give tips on vomiting, hiding their food, etc. In addition, they may also provide more information available on related areas of danger such as dental problems, heart disease and diabetes as potentially dangerous to ED sufferers.

Ana is my ‘Friend’

The Pro-Anorexia websites are able to provide eating disorder experts unprecedented insights into the world of their patients, revealing an obsession with the disease that may surprise even the most veteran eating disorder observers. For example in some cases, the younger sufferers can be observed to personalise their illness and naming her “Ana” (or “Mia” for girls with symptoms of bulimia), and some girls even worship her as a type of ‘deity’:

I tried to recover once & I gained so much weight so my savior mia came back to rescue me just when i needed it most (Anon Bulimic)

Pro-Ana Websites and Support

I found there to be degrees of Pro-Ana websites. While some did not acknowledge the possibility of recovery, others recognised that some sufferers wish to recover from their illness and as such focussed on support and community rather than dieting tips. In this way they provide an important forum for what can be both a marginalised and misunderstood segment of society. For young girls that suffer social stigma and misunderstanding of their eating disorder illness, simply being able to communicate with others who share their problems can be a huge relief:

I am an active bulimic, and I know I would be in serious trouble right now if I wasn’t in contact with other mias/anas through the sites I’ve been on. It’s really necessary to get your thoughts and feelings out somehow, and the sites are a great way to do that… (Anon Bulimic) I think that to take these sites away would be removing a valuable support network that we need to carry on, not with our disease, but with our lives. Most of these people cannot get support from family or friends, and these sites are where they go to talk about what they are going through freely, without being judged (Anon EdNOS Sufferer).

However it is precisely this aspect of community and belonging and how it interfaces with an eating disorder that worries some experts. Pro-Ana communities may in this instance be unintentionally encouraging the eating disorder as they provide an environment and opportunity to belong to the “eating disorder club”. Other experts concur, arguing that these ‘pro’ eating disorder websites are potentially deadly, because they normalise and affirm the very behaviour that defines the disease (Hayashi 2006, National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders website, ANAD).

Summary

In a democratic society people use the Internet to form both healthy and questionable alliances, that is the nature of the medium. While some argue that Pro-Ana sites should be closed down, others question the ethics of censorship and argue simply banning them does not address the problem. To the people who are pro Anorexia or Bulimia, eating disorders are a lifestyle choice and the Pro-Ana websites are a support group to the people who use them. However many others, including family and friends of ED sufferers as well as medical and mental health professionals view the concept of a pro-eating disorder community as disturbing and dangerous, arguing Pro-Ana websites serve the function of normalising what is an illness, and ‘making it ok’ to be Anorexic. I believe this conjunction of the Internet and eating disorders is not well understood and is an area that requires further and ongoing research.

Can Nutritional Supplements Help You Look Younger?

Why do we need nutritional supplements? Many of us, in today’s hurried lifestyle, do not eat a well balanced diet. Because of this we need nutritional supplements to boost our daily diet. We have seen numerous commercials for overweight bodies. When was the last time you saw a commercial about getting nutritional supplements, not just broad spectrum vitamins? We have become a nation of over fed and under nourished citizens.

Eating the right foods is great…BUT. The nutritional value of our food has diminished considerably in the last 50 or so years and this makes it necessary to take nutritional supplements. Our diet contains too much refined food and not enough pre-processed food. Unless you grow your own fruits and vegetables you will need to get your nutrients from another source, like nutritional supplements.

Nutritional supplements fill the holes that processed foods leave in our diet. Not having enough vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants,

  • Speeds the aging process
  • Contributes to poor cardiovascular health
  • Helps cause poor eyesight
  • Produces a weakened immune system.

Many factors cause degeneration of your body’s cells. Some factors are

  • Radiation exposure
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Overexposure to the sun’s rays.

Some nutritional supplements work at cell level, some do not. Make sure your nutritional supplements work at cell level. The nutritional supplements must contain enough vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to supplement our daily diet. Combining a good diet with nutritional supplements and regular exercise will provide us with the basics to fuel our bodies. Adding nutritional supplements and exercise to our busy lives will give us more energy. The use of nutritional supplements can also slow the aging process.

For the past 5 years or so we have heard much about antioxidants and free radicals, and for a good reason. If the free radicals in our systems are not neutralized they will run rampant in our bodies. The free radicals will damage our bodies at the cellular level. Here is where nutritional supplements can help. This damage over time will escalate and eventually lead to the acceleration of the aging process. The aging process usually manifests itself as heart disease, cancer, or osteoporosis. Diets alone do not supply enough antioxidants to combat this process. That is why your nutritional supplement must contain these antioxidants.

Health and nutrition experts say that the basis for good cardiovascular health is a nutrient rich diet, exercise, watching your cholesterol level, and monitoring your blood pressure. The cholesterol and blood pressure levels should be periodically checked by your health provider. Nutritional supplements added to your diet can help improve these factors. Your nutritional supplements should contain a garlic extract (unless you are a garlic lover like me and eat it every day!). Garlic has been shown to be of great benefit in decreasing cardiovascular disease.

Nearly all eye damage and loss of vision can be linked to poor nutrition! Poor nutrition can be directly linked to blood shot eyes, blurred vision, and nearly EVERY eye irritation we suffer. Nutritional supplements can help here too. To help reduce vision problems the nutritional supplements needs to contain Vitamins A, B, C, and E, in large enough quantities. Natural food sources for these are in dark green leafy vegetables (Kale and mustard greens, etc) orange fruits and vegetables (like carrots and oranges).

I have only listed just a few factors here to show how important nutritional supplements are. Nutritional supplements are normally a combination of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Taking one of the nutrients (like Vitamin C for example) and or one antioxidant and ignoring the rest isn’t good. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants all work together to promote a healthy body.

Get a list of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from your health care provider. Armed with this information read the labels of the nutritional supplements that you are considering (check several). Your health is too important to not check these. Get high quality nutritional supplements and you are on your way to a healthier life!

Find a game plan and if it works, stick with it. I did!

Popular Diets As Part of Global Solutions to Health Problems

Numerous popular diets have been introduced to the mainstream economy as a booming business that provides for answers and support mechanisms to some health concerns. These popular diets have become very visible. Popular diets are promoted or advertised almost everywhere a person goes. This is so because the health problems they seek to address also surround in every part of our world and these problems are getting more and more complex. As such, the necessity for these popular diets has exponentially increased over the past decades as they provide for remedies and preventive mechanisms against diseases and illnesses caused by unhealthy food intake. Due to such popularity and necessity, these popular diets have massive and global markets that continue to faithfully patronize such services. Ergo, some entrepreneurs dared to invest in this business since the global citizens are still desirous and willing to spend for these popular diet services for health purposes.

Health problems such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension are primarily caused by unbalanced and irregular diet. Lifestyle has a heavy bearing on every person’s diet. Someone who is extremely busy and always on the rush meeting deadlines does not only suffer too much stress but he or she also becomes more prone to eating food without regard to proper diet. Hence, as a result, the person acquires diseases and other health problems. To illustrate, one who has a very toxic schedule usually sacrifices time to sit and eat. In fact, the person has no time to choose and cook healthy food. This situation pushes one to avail of products from the fast-food since he or she quickly finds something to supply his or her starving tummy. These fast-food products are considered by dietitians and nutritionists to be least healthy because they are usually carbohydrates filled with fewer nutrients due to having been stocked at the storage room. In view of a person’s lifestyle where everything is on the rush, the time to prepare for healthy meals is the most affected especially that there are profusely scattered fast-food chains almost everywhere. This poses serious threat to one’s diet. Accordingly, humans should have a balanced intake of every nutrient from carbohydrates, protein, sugar, and other essential nourishment. However, if someone is highly preoccupied with work and other activities, chances are he or she eats food that are either too much in sugar, carbohydrates, and the likes that causes diabetes, obesity, and other diseases.

As society becomes more conscious of their health while they remain engrossed with careers, profession, business, and productivity, something that would strike a positive balance from these two different concerns is highly sought for nowadays. Popular diets provide for mechanisms and practices that ensure a person to remain healthy while he or she continues to be competent and effective in career or profession. In view of this fact, popular diets have become a universal service needed worldwide. Every person concerned with health and productivity is willing to spend amounts to ensure that they remain in good shape with regard to these two concerns – health and productivity.

The problem is that everyone wants the results, but doesn’t care about what they have to do to get there. More importantly, they don’t care about the long term negative affects that will follow their quick weight loss. In order to achieve your healthy weight loss and for it to also be a quick weight loss, you must make some fitness tuning changes to your body.

Now that we’ve identified that your mind should be on how a quick weight loss must also be a healthy weight loss, let’s get you there! We are going to address several things regarding your life and how you live it. I will give you the paths that you need to take in order for you to get to a healthy weight loss. Then you will need to go down those paths, one at a time. How well and how dedicated you are to accomplishing the completion of those paths will determine whether or not you have a quick weight loss. I will give you the tools to make a healthy weight loss also be a quick weight loss, but you must use them, and use them properly, for your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss to occur.

Step one, to achieve your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss, will be to make some changes to your diet. You must, and must want to, start with your diet. If you are a person that has a minimal or non-existent amount of exercise done each week, then trying to tackle that step first can be disastrous. If you run into the gym, before you correct your dieting deficiencies, you will feel a great deal of fatigue during exercise, and possibly faintness, dizziness, and extended muscle soreness and fatigue afterwards. To begin your stepping into a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss, you must first begin with giving your body the nutrients that it needs. Otherwise, your quest towards a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss will be that much more difficult, not to mention less enjoyable!

The dieting change to begin your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey is your daily food intake. You should have three meals a day, each containing a carbohydrate, a fruit or vegetable, and a protein. These items must also be evenly proportioned for each meal. You should get plenty of whole grains in your diet, so make sure that your carbohydrate sources are whole grain as often as possible. Ensure that you also get plenty of good cholesterol in order to keep your cholesterol level under control. This means that you should be eating a variety of nuts, eggs, and fish and including olive oil in your diet. In fact, I would recommend at least one meal a day which contains some kind of fish. Not only is it a good source of protein, but the Omega-3 oils that are contained in fattier fishes such as salmon and mackerel are essential for a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss, as well as healthy living.

Some fitness tuning suggestions for your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss diet.In the morning, I start my day with a fruit, a bowl of oatmeal and some bacon or sausage, followed by a multivitamin. For lunch you should also plan your lunch to contain a protein source, a carbohydrate, and a vegetable. I only have fruit with my meal in the morning, due to the fact that the sugar will help you to start your day by giving you the energy that you need. Vegetables contain more vitamins and minerals than fruit and therefore must be of higher concentration in your diet. My dinner always contains a meat, pasta or potatoes, and a steamed vegetable or salad. The fiber from the fruits and vegetables will slow down the absorption of the carbohydrates into your body, and will allow you to burn off absorbed carbohydrates before they can be stored as fat. By following these diet guidelines, your healthy weight loss will become a quick weight loss as well. Plus, you will have the energy to begin the next path towards your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey that will be found in Phase II.

Believe it or not, your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss plan involves snacks! In order to ensure that you are supporting your body’s needs for Phase II of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey, you must have two between-meal snacks. I continually use protein bars and protein shakes as my between-meal snack. However, I have also been known to use trail-mix that contains more nuts than fruits. Your goal is to ensure that your body is getting all of the proteins that it needs to support Phase II of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss plan. If you should ever feel a craving for something sweet, then have a piece of fruit. Some fruits have more sugars than others, such as bananas, grapes, pineapples, raisins, and mangos, and should be eaten sparingly. These are the desserts that will help to lead to your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss, not to mention a healthier you.

Eating Disorders 101: An Introduction

Research reports that two out of four young people have unhealthy ideas about eating, dieting and weight. With the alarming increase of eating disorders, dieting, and obesity among children as young as 5 and 6, it’s crucial these days for parents to proactively work to promote healthy eating and body image in their children.

It has been found that in households where mom talks about feeling fat, 81% of their teenage daughters said they felt fat too. Our girls, especially, are being easily confused and influenced when it comes to body image development. In a culture where young people are bombarded with skinny, glossy, and superficial images, parents can be a mirror reflecting understanding, reassurance, wisdom, and love that their children can look into with faith and not fear. Many factors influence whether an adolescent will develop a positive or negative body image. As a parent, you can learn to be supportive the next time your child says, “Mom, I feel fat or Mom, I hate my life,” and be ready with an answer by saying, “that sounds like an important feeling, tell me more.”

The Slenderizing Beauty Ideal

Everyday 56% of the women in the United States are on diets. We have a 30-billion-dollar-a-year diet industry. The historical view of the ideal female body has changed over the years and influenced this dieting America. Although many factors contribute to the changing body shape of girls, including better nutrition, earlier onset of puberty and other societal influences. The fact remains that regardless of the reason, the common trend over time points to a slenderizing standard of the female ideal.
With standards like this, it is no wonder that children are dissatisfied with their bodies.

When it came to looks – teens are most concerned about weight. A Teen People survey of 1000 teens, showed that 39% worried about weight. Between 2000 and 2001, cosmetic surgery on girls 18 and younger had increased by 22%.

Another study reported that after girls viewed pictures of models in fashion magazines:

69% reported that magazine pictures influenced their idea of the perfect body shape and

47% reported wanting to lose weight because of magazine pictures.

This study found that those who were frequent readers of fashion magazines were 2-3 times more likely than infrequent readers to start dieting to lose weight because of a magazine article.

What Are Eating Disorders?

Is it any wonder, then, that eating disorders affect 7 million women and 1 million men in the United States? Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. People with anorexia starve themselves to dangerously thin levels, at least 15% below their appropriate weight. People with bulimia binge uncontrollably on large amounts of food–sometimes thousands of calories at a time–and then purge the calories out of their bodies through vomiting, starving, excessive exercise, laxatives, or other methods. People with binge-eating disorder eat uncontrollably, but they do not purge the calories.

Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (or EDNOS) is a new classification of disordered eating that falls between anorexia, binge eating and bulimia. Unfortunately, since this type of ‘sub-clinical’ disorder is often not life-threatening, there appears to be little research available on the topic. One of the goals at FINDINGbalance.com, the first national organization dedicated to helping those who struggle with ENDOS, is to begin collecting new information through input from their website visitors and other existing sources. Visit the http://www.FINDINGbalance.com website to take the “Weird Eater” quiz and take a closer look at how dieting habits can lead to disordered eating.

Anorexia Warning Signs for Adolescents & Adults:

• Loss of menstrual period

• Dieting obsessively when not overweight

• Claiming to feel “fat” when overweight is not a reality

• Preoccupation with food, calories, nutrition, and/or cooking

• Denial of hunger

• Excessive exercising, being overly active

• Frequent weighing

• Strange food-related behaviors

• Episodes of binge-eating

• 15% or more below normal body weight/rapid weight loss

• Depression

• Slowness of thought/memory difficulties

• Hair loss

* In children any combination of these symptoms should be considered serious and an immediate evaluation by an eating disorder professional or physician is recommended.

Bulimia Warning Signs:

• Excessive concern about weight

• Strict dieting followed by eating binges

• Frequent overeating, especially when distressed

• Bingeing on high calorie, sweet foods

• Use of laxatives, diuretics, strict dieting, vigorous exercise, and/or vomiting to control weight

• Leaving for the bathroom after meals

• Being secretive about binges or vomiting

• Planning binges or opportunities to binge

• Feeling out of control

• Depressive moods

EDNOS Warning Signs:

• You’re always on a diet, always coming off a diet, or always getting ready to go on one again (chronic dieting).

• You categorize foods as ‘safe’ and ‘off limits’, but weigh within normal ranges and are not participating in bulimia.

• You eliminate entire food groups from your diet.

• You are obsessed with exercising but eat fairly regularly.

• You binge and/or purge occasionally, but not more than a few times a month.

• You skip social occasions because you feel fat, or because you are afraid of what’s being served, yet your weight is normal.

• You believe that everyone is as focused on your weight as you are.

• You refuse to eat regular meals, choosing instead to ‘nibble’ throughout the day on small portions of food (which usually leads to bingeing).

How Common Are Eating Disorders?

Eating disorders are serious illnesses. The malnourishment of both anorexia and bulimia affects the body rapidly and can lead to hypoglycemia, pancreatitis, enlargement of the heart, heart attacks, congestive heart failure, permanent brain shrinkage with loss of memory and IQ, infertility, and osteoporosis. It is not uncommon for a teenage girl with anorexia to have the bones of an 80 year old woman. The condition is not reversible. Ultimately, approximately, 6% of people with anorexia and 1% with bulimia will die from their eating disorder.

According to Remuda Ranch, an inpatient eating disorder treatment center in Arizona, estimates indicate that 1/3 of American women and 15% of men will have an eating disorder or related problem at some time in their lives. Fifty years ago, eating disorders were practically unheard of. Research suggest a strong genetic component to eating disorders. People who are prone to perfectionism and low self-esteem may be most at risk.

In today’s world, the cultural pressures for young people to obtain and maintain super-thin bodies are extreme. In this environment, thinness readily becomes a way of dealing with many emotional issues. However, outcome studies have shown there is much hope for people with eating disorders. The good news is that approximately 75% of patients with eating disorders do recover.

How Can Parents Prevent Disordered Eating?

Parents can do much to spare their children a life-long struggle with eating and weight. One of the most important ways is to examine their own beliefs and prejudices as a parent about weight and appearance. Parents should communicate acceptance and respect for themselves and other people regardless of weight. This will reduce some of the pressure children may feel to change their bodies. Especially, discourage the idea that a particular diet or body size can reliably lead to happiness. Do not model or encourage dieting. Accept and talk about the fact that diets don’t work and the dangers of altering one’s body through dieting.

Tips For Healthy Eating

In our diet crazed culture, what really is healthy eating? Here are a few tips that will go a long way in feeding your family a balanced mealtime experience. For starters, teach your children to listen to their body — eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full. Remember balance means that most of the time you eat because you are hungry and use food as fuel for your body. But, it also means that sometimes you eat simply when the food appeals to you or when it is appropriate in a social setting (e.g., popcorn at the movies), allowing yourself to eat for enjoyment.

Try to eat different foods everyday, in other words, create an adventure for your taste buds. Aim to inspire your family to eat 3 meals and 1 to 3 snacks a day. The idea that snacking between meals is bad is a thing of the past. By teaching your kids to eat every 2 to 4 hours, they will prevent their body from getting overly hungry which could set them up to overeat later. Plus, the body uses the fuel from food very efficiently when smaller amounts of food is eaten more frequently throughout the day.

The bottom line: eat normally, exercise moderately, and let your body weigh what it wants. Yes, it will take courage and perseverance, but the rewards of knowing you are teaching your family how to eat for pleasure is a true legacy to leave.

Impact Of Nutrition On Nations Produtivity And Healthy Growth

Nigeria has greatly improved socio-economically unlike her past years. The problem of malnutrition still cut across some of her citizens. She has been long hobbled by political instability, corruption, inadequate infrastructure and poor macro-economic management. This has led her to over dependence on the capital-intensive oil sector, which provides 20% of GDP, 95% of foreign exchange earnings, and about 65% of budgetary revenue. But certain governmental and economic reformation has brought about a lot of improvement ranging from an estimated increase in her GDP from $430 per capita in 2003 to $1,000 in 2005. Reducing the unemployment rate from 3.2% in 1997 to 2.9% in 2005. The adoption of micro-finance banking, and bank liquidation and consolidation by the CBN, resulted in the rating of Nigerian banks as one of the best in Africa. The peak of the whole thing was the historic debt-relief of $30 billion worth from the $37 billion own by Nigeria to the Paris Club in March 2006.In spite of all these recent development, 70% of Nigerians are still under the alienating hands of malnutrition and 60% in 2000 below poverty line. I have categorized the Nigerian nutritional problem for the sake of clarification into undernutrition, overnutrition and micronutrition. The purpose of this article is to review the government effort and also suggest ways of emanating the country from the alienating hands of poverty that threatens the country’s future.

NUTRITIONAL PROBLEMS.
Though the three nutritional problems make up a summary of the country’s problem of malnutrition, it will be good to review the whole problem one after the other. Undernutrition is of the greatest nutritional problem that stricken mostly people in the rural areas and some of those who went to the city in search of greener pasture. Undernutrition is characterized by inadequate intake of macro-nutrients (namely: calories and protein). According to the president Obasanjo, “almost half of children ages 7+-13 in Nigeria are underweight”. A lot of children and adults go to bed starved, some take one meal a day and most of these meals are carbohydrates. This leads to malnutrition and protein deficiency. It is the main cause of kwashiorkor which is more unique to people living in the tropical African region. For adults, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.79g per Kg (0.36g per 1b) of body weight each day. For children and infants this RDA is doubled and tripled, respectively, because of their rapid growth. This is the root cause of stunted growth and deformation in growing children. One-fifth of Nigerian children die before the age of five, primarily from millions of Nigerians are also living below one dollar a day, others live by begging for food on the streets.

Overnutrition is mainly the problem of adults and few adolescents especially the urban dwellers. It is a rapidly escalating public nutrition problem, principally reflecting shift in dietary patterns and more sedimentary lifestyles. The situation in Nigeria where economy favor a particular group than others, the poor gets poorer while the rich gets richer had brought about a higher percentage of overnutrition- Nigerian big man disease. This nutritional problem is now in an alarming rise in diet-related chronic disease such as type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and several diet-related cancers. These chronic diseases accounted for human suffering, social distress, loss of productivity, and economic burden to the health and other economic sectors. The increase in population obsessed in the country affects the country’s labour force and the productivity of the country both at present and in the near future.

The last but not the list is micronutrient deficiencies. It is the inadequate intake of key vitamins and minerals. It is both experienced by the poor and the rich, rural and urban dwellers. It is hunger hidden under the guise of sufficiency in Nigerian society. Lack of vitamins and minerals results in irreversible impairment to child physical and mental development. That is why this type of malnutrition is centered on pregnant women and children. According to some empirical conclusions, it is observed that even moderate iodine deficiency during foetal development and infancy has been shown to depress intelligence quotient levels by 10-15 points. Folic acid deficiency is linked to serious birth defects. Inadequate iron affects children’s growth and learning ability, and reduces their ability to concentrate, fully participate in school and society interacts and develops; it also contributes to material mortality and lowered workforce productivity. It is on record that 40% of children under 5years of age suffers vitamin A deficiency.

The three major nutritional problem in Nigeria place a great challenge on the country’s faltering economy has led to declining imports of costly protein-rich food, oil and animal feed. Many parents now abandon the task of breast-feeding and all this and many others contribute to the risk of malnutrition in Nigeria and more so now she is undergoing a rapid socioeconomic revolution.

GOVERNMENT ACTION PRIOR TO DEMOCRACY
Nigeria economy was dominated by Agriculture and trade, which flourished during the colonial rule in 19th century. In 1960s and 1970s the petroleum industry developed and prompted greatly increased export earnings and allowing massive investments in industry, agriculture, infrastructure and social science.

The sharp decline in oil prices, economic mismanagement, and continued military rule characterized Nigeria in the 1980s. In 1983, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) began providing assistance to the Nigerian Federal and State Ministries of Health to develop and implement programs in family planning and child survival. In 1992, an HIV/AIDS prevention and control program was added to existing health activities USAID committed $135 million to bilateral assistance programs for the period of 1986 to 1996 as Nigeria undertook an initially successful Structural Adjustment program, but later abandoned it. Plans to commit $150 million in assistance from 1993 to 2003 were interrupted by strains in U.S.-Nigeria relations over human right abuses, the failed transition to democracy, and a lack of cooperation from the Nigerian Government on anti-narcotics trafficking issues. By the mid-1990s, these problems resulted in the curtailment of USAID activities that might benefit the military government. Existing health programs were redesigned to focus on working through grassroots Nigerian non-governmental organizations and community groups.

In 1987, The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), under the principal Researcher Dr Kenton Dashiell, launched an ambiguous effort in Nigeria to combat widespread malnutrition. They encouraged the use of nutrients, economical soybeans in everyday food. They further said that soybeans are about 40% protein-rich than any of the common vegetable or animal food sources found in Africa. With the addition of maize, rice and other cereals to the soybeans, the resulting protein meets the standard of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Soybeans also contain about 20% oil, which is 85% unsaturated and cholesterol free. Though a lot of nice programs for malnutrition alleviation started at this period, there were a lot of other socio-economic thorns that hindered the popularity and proper functioning of these programs till the democratic period. The economic instability within this period favored malnutrition to a great extent due to autocratic government. There was little or no in-depth effort to fight malnutrition. The period can be identified as the egoistic period- when the governmental private interest dominated at the expense of the suffering masses.

THE LATER INTERVENTION
The most interesting part of this period is that it is characterized by promise and hope. Promise which is the chief working tool of this period and hope ever present to sustain the promise. The president Obasanjo in 2002 meeting with the president International Union of Nutritional Sciences promised to support a better coordination of nutritional activities and programs in Nigeria, he further said, “the high prevalence of malnutrition is totally unacceptable to this government and he assured the IUNS president that he would do everything possible to ensure that resources are available to improve household food security, greater access to healthcare services and better caring capacity by mothers including support for breast feeding promotion.

On the 27th September 2005, Nigerian president chief Olusegun Obasanjo lunched the Nasarawa state school feeding program at the Laminga primary school. The program is fully funded and administered by the state of Nasarawa, which makes it a unique model in Africa today. The epoch making event is in fulfillment of one of the promises of combating malnutrition especially among children whom he observed that many at the age of 7-13years are underweight. He further promise to reach out about 27million children during the coming 10years.

Other international bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO), The United Nation International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) which began in 1992 but took more root during democratic regime. All of them and many more are fighting acidly to eradicate poverty and malnutrition.

There are a lot of challenges that exist in some nutrition improvement programs. There is the need for the government to place some nutritional research into the national policy. They should be able to reach out to the nook and cranny of the country. They should be able to coordinating all the sectors of anti-malnutrition agencies. A more effective intervention is very much needed.

Nutrition is now an interventional issues a stake and as well the unavoidable duty of each nation. Though it is difficult to bring solution to every man’s door but the government should try as much as possible to reach people through, mobile agencies, and mass media. There should be a lot of effective research conducted in the nation to be updated with information such as; average government investment in nutrition per capital, current statues of nutrition deficiencies, and information on nutrition initiatives, as well as national policy frameworks and interagency coordination mechanisms. There is need to promote nutritional organisation especially, non-governmental organisation. The government should try to improve the socio-economic life of the people. Agriculture should be encouraged and improved in the country. There should be a check on the nutritional value of every product both imported and non-imported product. The Government should promote a global nutrition agenda, which would increase nutrition’s visibility at national levels and beyond.

If these above suggested solution would be taken into account, Nigeria would improve to a heavy extent as the giant of Africa and future giant of the world economy, thereby clearing the future storm of economy facing Nigeria because of some of her citizens suffering from nutritional problems.

Popular Fad Diets – 5 Reasons Why Today’s Most Popular Diet Plans Will Not Help You Lose Weight

What is so terrible about the most popular fad diets? I will be the first to admit that there are many people that are experiencing amazing results with fad diets. Perhaps you have also heard incredible stories of your aunt losing 50 pounds by eating by following a trendy new diet plan. So how could they possibly be bad for you?

Weight loss following a fad diet will always be a temporary loss. There are two main reasons that popular fad diets are doomed fail. The first is that they do not take your lifestyle into account. Second, with many popular diet plans the weight loss is due to a loss of water weight that will be put back on just as soon as your body re-hydrates. Unfortunately, most fad diets were designed for the dieter to fail.

Below are 5 reasons to avoid fad diets:

1. Many diets that guarantee that you will lose weight quickly and easily are typically based on eating more of one particular food and completely omitting another from your diet. This type of eating plan does not share the same benefits that can be attained by eating a well balanced diet. To compensate for the lack of essential nutrients, the diet plan may recommend a supplement to be taken, however oftentimes a supplement will not fully absorb into the body unless it is consumed along with the foods that the diet has eliminated. Sticking with this diet for a long time may begin to develop nutritional deficiencies.

2. Most fad diets were not created with long term weight loss in mind. Often times these particular diets are terribly boring and over restrictive after the first couple of days. It is not uncommon in this situation to start to constantly crave food and eventually lead to breaking the diet.

3. The American Heart Association and other organizations have created recommendations for healthy fat levels. These recommendations are generally overlooked by most of the fad diets available today. Especially with diets that recommend foods that are high in fat and discourage carbs, following a diet with a disproportionate amount of fat levels may result in heart disease. The diet creators often advise that the diet is intended to be followed for a short amount of time. However, what do you do if you do not reach your goal weight in the recommended time? At this point, you can either continue following a plan that could harm your health, or quit and most likely put on all the weight that you previously lost.

4. Fad diets generally deny our bodies a variety of foods that we desperately need. The most often neglected food is fruits and vegetables. An appropriate amount of servings of daily fruits and vegetables does not fit into the plan of a fad diet.

5. Any plan with claims of quick weight loss are focused on temporary solutions. These plans do not help you to stick with changes to your everyday diet. Sustained weight loss and keeping off the weight require permanent changes and sticking with it after you reach your target weight. Cycles of losing weight and weight gain can be worse for your health, not to mention your self-image, than if you had remained overweight.

Avoid the temporary loss offered by the latest fad diet and opt for long term weight loss instead. The very best way to lose weight and to keep it off is to fill your diet with healthy and nutritious foods, avoid overeating, get regular exercise and stay away from fad diets.

The number one deciding factor for weight loss is your own motivation and determination. Are you ready to start making changes to reshape your body and shed the excess weight? If you are the type of person that is determined to finally lose the weight, then click here for more tips on how to turn your body into a fat burning furnace right now.

6 Tips For A Weight Loss Plan

The first step for healthy weight loss is to create some sort of weight loss plan.

I know that sounded a little vague, but your weight loss plan does NOT have to be something that only NASA could understand or approve.

YOUR weight loss plan should include such simple things as what activities (exercise) you are going to indulge in, when, where, and so on. You will want to outline your goals, both long term and short term goals You will definitely need to outline what your strategy will be for nutrition…notice I DID NOT say “diet”!

Why have a formal, or at least semi-formal, weight loss plan?

It has long been known to those who are successful in business, sports, entertainment, motivation, and other areas, that one way to improve your chances of success is to sit down and write out where you are, where you want to be, and how you are going to get there.

It is easier to plan for losing weight, or any other goal related activity, if there exists a clear picture of starting points, ending points, and how you intend to move from one point to the other. It is very easy to start a weight loss program or any other activity with intense motivation and a flurry of lofty plans only to lose site of the objective or to be led down unproductive paths by daily activities and the blurring effect of time.

Here are a few tips to consider when putting together YOUR personal weight loss plan:

1. Make your goals realistic:

Wanting to weigh what you weighed in high school is, for most of us at least, unrealistic. Using some movie star’s weight or a relative’s weight as your goal is also possibly detrimental to actually accomplishing effective weight loss. Each of those people arrived at THEIR weight by a combination of genetics, diet, and exercise which may not apply to you at all!

Most people do not realize that a healthy weight loss program should, for most people, result in a weight loss of only a pound or so a week. To many who have been striving for years to lose weight, this may seem a depressing statement. However, let me put it in perspective.

I have a close friend who was so desperate to lose weight that she opted for gastric bypass surgery. She weighed 340 lbs at the time of the surgery. When the doctor was briefing her on what to expect, she learned that even with surgical intervention, she would probably only lose about 70 lbs in her first year. That works out to 1.35 lbs a week, which would be a healthy weight loss that most people could achieve through a combination of physical activity and proper nutrition. The doctor also informed my friend that she would continue to lose weight over the following years until she reached some new level which would be determined by genetics, nutrition, and activity. This is the same expectation that anyone bypassing the bypass and opting for a healthy weight loss program could expect.

Finally, unrealistic weight loss goals insure failure, while an average of a pound a week over a period of a year is relatively easy to attain with motivation and effort.

2. Do not focus on weight loss:

I know that sounds strange since your goal IS weight loss, but it is easy to see failure if you are only looking for weight loss. For example, people’s weight fluctuates from day to day and even within the day itself. A temporary setback where weight is regained becomes inflated if viewed against the background of only weight loss. However, if your goal is to do the things which are going to make you healthy, for example, then those few days of overeating at Thanksgiving may be more excusable in your own heart if you know that you have been taking your walks, or have cut your use of sugar, or are still taking action in some other form.

This is something that should be considered in your weight loss plan. How are you going to make your life better overall? How many ways can you approach “weight loss”? Do not make it your goal to lose so many pounds this week. Rather, set a goal to walk so many minutes, lift so many pounds, garden for so many minutes. That way, even if your weight does not change that much in that period or even goes in the wrong direction, you still know that your body is benefiting from the parts of your weight loss plan that you are still in touch with.

NOTE: People who begin exercising as part of their weight loss program often experience a weight GAIN somewhere in the first few weeks of their new exercise experience. THIS IS PERFECTLY NATURAL! If you have just begun exercising to lose weight and experience a weight gain, this should be only temporary, and is most commonly caused by your body adding muscle mass faster than it loses fat.

3. Plan to go slow:

I don’t know if there is a statistic somewhere that demonstrates how many people drop out of their weight loss program due to stress, strain, pain, or just plain burnout. However, I have experienced it myself, I have read about it, and I know people it has happened to. Sometimes the simplest statements are most true. One that you will often hear is, “It took years for your body to get this way, and you cannot change it overnight.” This is so true. Also, take into consideration that, even though you might not be SEEING significant changes, if you are taking the steps that you have outlined in your weight loss plan, your body is adapting inside, in places you cannot see, but it is repairing and preparing to move to higher levels of fitness and health.

4. Plan to measure your progress:

I know I said not to stress so much about the weight loss, but you do need to see what is going on. You don’t have to concentrate exclusively on pounds lost, however. If you can walk farther this week than you could two or three weeks ago, you are progressing. Hopefully, in another two weeks, you will be walking farther, or faster. If, at the start of your weight loss program you could only exercise for five minutes at a time, and now you can exercise for 15 minutes, that is progress, isn’t it? That’s an accomplishment and is something you should be proud of.

NOTE: One measurement of progress in a weight loss program is quite simply “size”. Two weeks into a weight loss program, you might actually have gained weight, for example, as I pointed out a few paragraphs ago. However, if your clothes are looser, or you need to buy smaller clothes, or friends are coming up and asking, “Have you lost weight?” these are good signs that your program is working even if your scales haven’t gotten the news yet.

5. Plan to stay motivated:

One of the most common obstacles that knock people off their weight loss program is loss of motivation. The drive and excitement that gets you started is very seldom still around when you lace up your walking shoes for what seems like the millionth time and have only lost two lbs.

Including your reasons for losing weight, the emotional and perhaps physical triggers that got you started in the first place, as part of your written weight loss plan gives you a means of reinvigorating your desire to achieve your goals. We often forget how we felt and what we believed at the start of such a journey, and being able to pull out the paper and review the dreams and expectations can bring us back up to that original level, or at least remind us of what we are enduring this for.

I used to be an instructor for a major national corporation, and one thing that I and other instructors would tell our students was, to achieve their goals, they had to, “plan their work, and work their plan.”

Coping With A Loved Ones’ Eating Disorder During the Holidays

For most people, the holiday season is a wonderful time of year. It is often a time of family reunion, socializing, and celebration – a time when families, friends, and coworkers come together to share good will and good food. The season is meant to be bright, happy, and full of the best of relationships. Yet, for those who suffer with eating disorders, this is often the worst time of the year. For those who are trapped in the private hell of anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder, the Holidays often magnify their personal struggles, causing them great internal pain and turmoil.

At Center for Change, we have asked many patients over the years to share from their private experiences what the Holidays have been like during the years they suffered with an eating disorder. The women quoted in this article are of different ages, but all suffered with the illness for many years. As you read the following passages you will feel something of the agony of suffering with an eating disorder at this festive time of year.

“Unlike any other normal teenager, I always hated it when the holiday season would roll around. It meant that I would have to face my two worst enemies – food and people, and a lot of them. I always felt completely out of place and such a wicked child in such a happy environment. I was the only person who didn’t love food, people, and celebrations. Rather, holidays for me were a celebration of fear and isolation. I would lock myself in my room. Maybe no one else gained weight over the holidays, but just the smell of food added weight to my body. My anorexia destroyed any happiness or relationships I could possibly have had.” -Nineteen-year-old woman

“The holiday season is always the most difficult time of year in dealing with my eating disorder. Holidays, in my family, tend to center around food. The combination of dealing with the anxiety of being around family and the focus on food tends to be a huge trigger for me to easily fall into my eating disorder behaviors. I need to rely on outside support to best cope with the stresses of the holidays.” -Twenty-one-year-old woman

“Over the past few years, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season I have felt horrible. I felt trapped and like the food was out to get me. I lied on endless occasions to avoid all of the parties and big dinners that go along with the holidays. I felt horrible about my body and did not want anyone to see me eat for fear they would make judgments about me.” -Eighteen-year-old woman

These quotes from women suffering from anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating reveal the emotional intensity they feel during the holiday season. Their fear of gaining weight and becoming, in their minds, fat, gross, and disgusting, is the monster they must deal with every time they partake of any of the foods that are so wonderful and common to the holidays.

Starving for the Holidays – A Tale of Anorexia

Those struggling with anorexia are terrified of the holidays because they have no idea what a normal amount of food is for themselves. Most of them feel that anything they eat will mean instantaneous weight gain. In fact, some of them have said that just the sight or smell of food is terrifying to them because their fear of being fat or becoming fat is so ever-present in their minds. For some, just thinking about food is enough to create intense turmoil, pain, and guilt. Anorexia creates tremendous guilt about any kind of indulgence involving food. The eating of food becomes evidence, in their mind, that they are weak, out of control, and undisciplined. Anorexic men and women are often terrified of being seen eating food or of having people look at them while they eat. One client felt that every eye was on her at holiday gatherings. Many suffering with anorexia have shared their feelings of being immobilized by their fears about food.

“My life with an eating disorder during the holidays is a living hell – constant hiding and fear, confused about life and hating every moment being surrounded by food. There was so much pressure, so many stares and glances, and days with endless comments. My whole life was a mess. There was so much pain and guilt inside of me and I didn’t know where to turn, except to my eating disorder. I hated the pressure of eating the food, the constant worrying of offending others.” -Twenty-two-year-old woman

“It’s hard to be around all the food and festivities. When I’m hurting inside and struggling with what “normal” food portions even are, I need the help, emotional understanding, and support of family and other people. “Handle with care, but please handle.” Accept me the way I am. Let me back in the family” -Twenty-three-year-old woman

The importance of these quotes from clients in treatment for anorexia is found in their honest expression of the tremendous pressure and conflict they feel inside in response to the normal food and social activities of the season. Their internal suffering and pain are often hidden from those around them by their continual remarks about “being fat,” or may also be hidden in their patterns of avoidance and withdrawal from social involvements.

The Hidden Beast of Holiday Feasts – Tales of Bulimia and Binge Eating

On the other end of the eating disorder spectrum, a woman with severe bulimia or binge eating disorder finds the holidays are a genuine nightmare because there is so much emphasis on food that they become preoccupied with it. Binge eating and subsequent purges become even more prevalent because many of the foods and sweets that are associated with holiday celebrations are very enticing to them. The holidays can be a time of convenient indulgence, but also a time of great shame and self-reproach because of their secret life. Some even use the binge eating and/or purging as a form of self-punishment throughout the holidays.

Women who suffer with binge eating or bulimia often live out this painful eating disorder hell in private and in secret, and often feel great self contempt. To many of their family and friends things may look positive and normal even while the sufferer feels significant despair and negativity about their loss of self-control. Those whose family members know about their eating disorder carry this awful feeling that they are the main attraction at the holiday dinner, where every trip to the food or to the bathroom is seen as a major defeat and disappointment to their family.

“Christmas is the hardest time with my bulimia. So much food, so much love, and so much joy, but I could not feel the love or joy, so I indulged in the food as a replacement. It was hard to see everyone so happy before I made the trek to the bathroom. I felt unworthy to be happy. I didn’t deserve the love and joy. I’ve discovered that if I can focus on the love and joy, everything else falls into place” -Eighteen-year-old-woman

“The secrecy and lying make it very difficult for me during the holiday season. I have to decide whether to restrict my food or to binge and then sneak away to purge.” -Twenty-two-year-old-woman

Some of the painful consequences of binge eating and bulimia are found in the time, planning, and dishonesty that is required to protect and cover up their eating disorder during the holidays. They often feel hatred for themselves for the ongoing deception to family and friends to excuse or explain their behaviors. In addition, they live in constant fear of being “found out” by their significant others, or in fear of continually letting others down because of their inability to stop their compulsive behaviors.

Family and Friends – Turning Potential Triggers into Gifts of Support

Holiday ideals epitomize what is good about family and other personal relationships. Activities during this time of year can involve family members and friends in intense and often emotional ways. Unfortunately, those with eating disorders can find it terrifying to be emotionally close with other people. In such situations they may feel vulnerable and unsafe, and then revert to their eating disorder to restore a sense of control and self-protection.

Some family dynamics, such as conflict, can be triggering to those with eating disorder difficulties. Struggles with perfectionism, feelings of rejection, disapproval, and fear of being controlled, are all cited frequently by women who suffer with the illness. Harboring strong feelings and beliefs that parents, family members, or friends find them unacceptable, inadequate, or disappointing is challenging for anyone, but is particularly devastating to someone with a painful eating disorder. Being immersed in a family setting during the holidays has the potential to dredge up old issues, fears, conflicts, and worries about family relationships. The resulting emotional disruption can feed the eating disorder and exacerbate the problem.

“Having an eating disorder during the holidays presents quite a contradiction in my mind. I anticipate all the food and get excited, while at the same time I dread the many family members around. I feel that the family is over to “watch”. I know that they simply want to reach out and help, but I feel that a big help would be to make a concerted effort to shift the holiday focus from the food to the underlying purpose. I wish the food could be a minor deal, just an accessory to the holiday, rather than the focus.” -Twenty-year-old woman

“Holidays, with all the food and family commotion, are pure hell when you have an eating disorder. For me, when the focus isn’t on food and is on the real reason for the holiday, it’s a big help. My family helped me out with this one, but I had to do most of it internally. Remember, it’s just food, and we have more power than food.” -Thirty-nine-year-old woman

The following suggestions resulted from a survey question we asked patients in treatment: “What three suggestions do you have for family and friends who want to help the holiday season go a little better for a loved one suffering with an eating disorder?” The women offering these suggestions range in age from fourteen to forty-four, and their suggestions offer some valuable insight and understanding that could be helpful to you as a friend or a family member. Being compassionate about the struggles of the eating disorder illness can help make the Holidays less of a battle for those you love. The suggestions are:

- Do not make a big issue about what your loved one is eating. A little bit of encouragement is okay.
- Do not focus too much on food, it may only fuel the eating disorder.
- Ask her how she is doing and see if she needs any help.
- Do not become angry about how the she feels, just do your best to support her.
- Offer a lot of support and be aware of what may be creating anxiety and try and understand what she feels. Be understanding, kind, and supportive.
- Spend quality time with your loved one.
- Make sure that the primary focus of the holiday is not on the food but rather on the family and the valued time you will share together.
- Allow for other activities that do not involve food, such as games, singing carols together, opening gifts, decorating, and spending time just talking together.
- Allow her to make a dish that she would feel comfortable eating.
- Before the Holiday itself, and before family gatherings, make agreements about how you can best help your loved one with food. Honor the agreements you make.
- Do not give her loud and attention drawing praise when she does eat.
- Do not talk about diets, weight loss, or weight gain. It causes great anxiety and may increase a felt need to engage in eating disorder behavior.
- Do not stare.
- Learn enough about the illness and the triggers to help your loved one develop skills as well as strategies to defy eating disorder thoughts and urges.
- Know something about her struggles, triggers, and behaviors. Then, if you see those, you can approach her after a meal in private and suggest ways she might be helped in some of those behaviors and learn ways you can be helpful and supportive.
- If you see her struggling, ask if she wants to talk, but ask this in private.
- Focus on how she is feeling inside, what issues she is worrying about, what her fears are, what she needs, rather than just how much she is eating or not eating.
- Try not to focus too much attention on the eating disordered behaviors.
- Be patient and nurturing.
- Treat her with love and respect no matter what is going on.
- Let her know that she is loved.
- Help her take her mind off of food by generating a conversation with her about general or important topics.
- Don’t allow her to excessively isolate.
- Be there for her emotionally and physically with hugs and messages of love.

There are several themes that are evident in these suggestions for loved ones and friends by those suffering with eating disorders. One of the most important is to keep the primary focus and interest on the family member or friend – the individual beyond her eating behaviors or eating disorder. Consider well these suggestions, they are actually heartfelt requests.

How Family and Friends Can Help During the Holidays

Family members and friends need to know ways to help a loved one suffering from an eating disorder during the holidays. In addition to those suggestions offered above, the following suggestions from clinical professionals may also be helpful:

- If your loved one is a child or adolescent in treatment, and/or if you are involved in Maudsley/Family Based Treatment, then continue with your regular outlined treatment plan through the Holidays.
- If your loved ones is a child or adolescent with anorexia, then learn about the Maudsley/ Family Based Treatment approach. It is important to give this approach consideration.
- If your loved one is an acute medical or self harm risk then arrange for intensive medical/psychiatric care immediately.
- Get professional help for your loved one with those who have experience and expertise with eating disorder treatment.
- It is important for everyone to be honest and up front with each other.

When going into a family or social event, especially if people are aware of the eating disorder problem, it is helpful that everyone talks honestly about what will help and what will not help during the event. Armed with this knowledge, family and friends can set up some structure around holiday activities that is agreeable to all parties involved. Give reassurance about your desire to “be supportive” of them without trying to control every problem. You can respond to their feedback about what may be helpful to them by making positive adjustments. It helps to express love, gratitude, respect, and acceptance for your loved one.

- It is important to emphasize the purpose for the celebration of the holiday and focus less on food or meals.

If the focus is on the holiday itself and its true meaning and purpose rather than on the food or eating disorder, it will be easier for your loved one to focus less on it herself. Emphasize time together, activities, and traditions that transcend meals and eating. Let food become a support to the holiday rather than its central focus.

- It is important for family and friends not to feel responsible and guilty for the eating disorder.

There is no need and there is no good time to feel guilty or at fault for your loved one’s eating disorder. The Holidays are especially not the time. Eating disorders are complex illnesses that are not caused by one person or one relationship. It is also important for the eating disordered person not to feel responsible for their family and friend’s emotional response to the eating disorder. One helpful agreement around the holiday season is, “We will spend time focusing on the need for nourishment as previously agreed upon, and primarily, we will spend time focusing on each other and the things that are available and that are meaningful in our family or social setting.” Let them know that you can look beyond the outward manifestations of the eating disorder because you are also concerned about the hurt, pain, fear, and guilt they are feeling inside. In acknowledging the pain inside, no one has to be at fault or to blame for the eating disorder, allowing positive family associations and caring to become the emphasis. There is no need to “walk on egg shells”, especially when everyone understands and acknowledges the underlying needs associated with the eating disorder. Compassion is a wonderful holiday gift for someone with an eating disorder.

- It can be helpful during the holiday season to break activities into smaller numbers of people, when possible.

It is easier and less overwhelming to deal with five people than fifty people. Invite your friends or family members to participate in smaller, quieter, and less chaotic social activities and events. Simple talking and sharing as a small circle of family members or friends can do much to increase the sense of belonging and safety for someone with an eating disorder.

- Encourage your family member or friend to gather extra support around themselves during the holidays.

Additional support can come from extended family, other friends, community, and even treatment team members. If you recognize the benefit of these additional support people during the holidays, you can encourage this extra involvement rather than be hurt and offended by it. Sometimes, a person with an eating disorder might not be ready yet to receive the full love and support family and friends offer, but support and love them anyway! You can send the message, “We’re here to support you and it’s okay if others support you as well. We want you to have all the help you need during this time.”

- It is important for family and friends to remove any unreasonable behavior expectations or pressures of performance.

Sometimes you want so much for things to be better that you do not realize how your disappointed hopes and expectations actually play out as triggers for the eating disorder. Letting go of these specific expectations in your own mind frees you up to respond to and enjoy whatever your loved one is capable of during the holidays. It would be more helpful to express a lot of warmth, love, kindness, and acceptance toward the person – “There is no pressure to prove anything to us during the holidays. We just want to focus on being together the best we can.” Eliminating specific, overt, or implicit expectations will be more beneficial than almost anything else you can do.

- It is important to offer care “giving” and not care “taking.” Being a self declared nurse, dietitian, therapist, or detective takes you out of your most important role – “loved one”

It is not your job to fix or solve the eating disorder. It is your job to encourage nourishment of the body and provide nourishment to the soul. Working too hard to stop the eating disorder behaviors during the holidays can fuel dishonesty and defensiveness which actually feeds the problem. You are not responsible to say or do everything right. Nothing you do or not do will take away your friend or family member’s own responsibility to overcome and recover from their eating disorder. She/he is the only one who can do that job, but you can care, empathize, encourage, and share the process with them. The good intent you express is often more helpful than what is actually said or done. If your friend or family member knows that your heart is on their side, then you become a source of comfort, support, and safety to them.

Conclusion

These general holiday suggestions by patients and professionals are not a complete list, but they do emphasize some positive approaches to help and support someone suffering with an eating disorder. The specific ideas, strategies, and agreements that can come out of your interactions with your loved one before and during the holidays will allow these ideas to be personalized and unique for each situation. Remember also, that the person struggling with the eating disorder has her own list of positive things that she can do to help her through the holiday season as well. We hope this article is helpful in better understanding the significant and difficult ordeal those who suffer from eating disorders will face at this season of the year. We hope this awareness and understanding will help us identify the best gifts of the holidays for those we love and care so much about at this time of year.

Sports Nutrition Protein And The Benefits Of Taking It With A Sporting Diet

You need to be accurate about the nutritional information that your body will require to accomplish maximum achievement. Every athlete generally desires to be unparalleled in their chosen sport. But if you want to be well-recognized as an athlete, you’ve got to have beneficial nutrients in a consistent food intake, this is particularly the case with sports nutrition protein. Whilst it is certain that drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet is enough for the regular guy, sports people — you included — need increased nourishment, for the adequate creation of physical energy.

Your uncompromising training must be accompanied by the correct amount of sports nutrition protein. This will aid you in maximizing your athletic ability and in the process acquire more power, strength, and endurance as you train.

The dynamic of these factors is simple: you’ve got the talent and are properly driven so you are into sports and need relentless training. To endure the training, you need sports nutrition protein. This will help in preparing you for your next training session, the more will be your need for a sustaining formula, like sports nutrition supplements such as protein.

First of all you need to recognize where sports nutrition proteins come from. Proteins come in animal products such as meats, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products and plant based stuff like beans, nuts, and other foods. These foods should supply 12-15 percent of your daily calorie intake. And this is where the challenge lies — how to extract the needed amount from this food without consuming the excess bulk becomes a problem. This is the reason why sports nutrition protein was formulated.

The reason behind this is similar to what you would have with vitamins intake. You take vitamin C in its elemental form because, in order to get the needed amount of vitamin C, you have to eat several oranges frequently. Same with sports nutrition protein. You don’t need to consume kilos of meats and beans on a daily basis.

The amount of sports nutritional protein you will need depends on your fitness level, work routine, and the intensity and duration of your exercise. Whole calorie intake, which includes carbohydrate, also plays a prominent role in your protein intake. But bear in mind that protein, is not only a source of energy, but gives your body the ability to build new muscle tissues.

Figuring out how much protein you need can often be hard nutritional information to come across unless you have your own sports nutritionist or advisor at your local gym. To give you a rough idea of the proper amount of sports nutrition protein that should be consumed when performing regular exercise is as follows. If you weight was 80kg you would multiply that by 2.2 which would then give you your weight in pounds. 80 x 2.2 = 176. This means that you would need to eat 176 grams of protein a day. In order for this to be effective you will need to be working out daily. If you consume to much protein and are working out it will have a negative effect by turning to fat. It is essential that you get this sports nutrition supplement right if you are looking to build more muscle.

In terms of the type of your exercise, sports nutrition supplements are deemed as necessary. If you’re a starting athlete, you will need much more sports nutritional protein compared with what you needed before you began working out. And if the type of sports that you are in is an endurance type, you will frequently burn protein for fuel. The need for sports nutrition proteins is more notable.

You should also realize that the body burns more protein if you do not consume sufficient calories for this is the body’s way of compensating to maintain the correct balance. Not enough food and nutrients coupled with too much exercise causes this to occur.

Your body can also use protein as a way of gaining energy as long as the exercises use up small of amounts of muscle glycogen (also know as sugar) or if you are doing a sustained amount of exercise that will use up a lot of carbohydrates. This is the reason why specially formulated nutrition, like sports nutrition protein is a requirement.

What Are the Most Popular Diets in Hollywood? – What Do These Diets Consist Of?

Our friends the celebrities, well we feel like they are. They are so much a part of lives we can hardly make it through the day without seeing one of them in a magazine, on TV, or on the internet. We look and wonder what it would be like to be them. What it would be like to have their money, clothes, car, and jewelry. But most often we wonder what it would be like to have their looks and their bodies. At least one time we all have said “If I looked like…than I would be rich and famous”. Come on, you haven’t… really. You are probably thinking it right now! So we go searching for the most Popular Diets in Hollywood to find out which diet our celebrity used to get fit and trim.

In one of my previous articles title “What are the Most Popular Celebrity Diets?” I discussed and gave an opinion on The Zone Diet, The Atkins Diet, and the Sugar Busters Diet. In this article I will discuss and give an opinion on more of the Popular Diets in Hollywood and why I think you should look to an alternative program that will not force you to guess how to do the program and not cost you nearly as much.

Here are some of the Popular Diets in Hollywood:

  • The South Beach Diet- Great Diet program you can get customized diets, recipes and food guides, weight tracker tools, and news letters. This diets works by utilizing “3 phases” in the first phase you will have to completely cut out carbohydrates. That’s 2 weeks without bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, or baked goods. No fruit, even. You also won’t eat candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, or sugar for two weeks. Also, no beer or alcohol. Yikes! I don’t know about you but that’s seems pretty rough to me. On top of this in order to keep receiving support from the website you need to pay for a membership. You will need to pay 5 dollars per week in order to have access to the tools you’ll need to stay on track. After 2 months you will have paid $40 after one year you will have spent $260 in membership fees. I know gyms that are cheaper than that.
  • The GI Diet- Developed by Dr. David Jenkins who is a professor of nutrition at the University of Toronto. The GI (glycemic index) measures the speed at which foods are broken down by the body to form glucose, the body’s source of energy. High G.I. foods break down quickly and leave you looking for the next food fix. Low G.I. foods break down more slowly and leave you feeling fuller, longer. It is these low G.I. foods that form the core of the diet. Foods are categorized by 3 colors red, yellow, and green. After you purchase the series of 3 books for $40 you will be able to understand how to categorize each food according to its color. By eating the appropriate colored foods in the correct proportion you will lose weight.

I’ve found one product that is easy to implement and if you can cook some simple recipes you will be well on your way to losing weight like the Popular Diets in Hollywood and it won’t cost you nearly as much. In fact you will probably be saving money in the long run, because some of the expensive foods you buy like potato chips and ice cream will be out of the equation.

Eating is essential to live but life is not for eating. Eating has much influence on personality and health. But, eating disorder unbalance patient’s diet some time it is over and sometime patient avoids to eat. Altogether, eating disorder is a mental illness in which the patient suffers from disturbed diet the interventions have also been addressed by the psychological theories and practices. The theory explicates, that the patients have traumatized from anguished behavior to life-threatening position which ultimately affect patient’s routine whether it is eating or other daily routine. The authors have said about the topic “feelings about work, school, relationships, day-to-day activities and one’s experience of emotional well being are determined by what has or has not been eaten or by a number on a scale.” Most common disorders are Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa which have been recognized by the psychology medical sciences. There are several other types of disorders which are identified as Rumination syndrome, compulsive overeating, and Selective eating disorder.

Eating disorder refers to the overlapping condition in eating which can be treated as patient’s abnormal behavior towards daily eating schedule with numerous forms of conventional psychopathology. By and large medication is helpful to intervene the psychopathology which is linked with anorexia nervosa. Consciousness management and the behavioral therapy measures are helpful in encourage the weight gain in anorexia nervosa. The interventions effectiveness is limited for anorexia nervosa which could be due to the bad body image together with low body weight. The medication of antidepressants can decrease binging, purging in bulimia nervosa and the binge eating disorder; however, this is a self medication to use any antidepressant medicine to release the consciousness about bad body image. The interventions through cognitive or behavioral therapy can also reduce binging and purging, nevertheless, the behavioral therapy is more effectual as compare to medication. This notion indicates that psychotherapy is more effective to intervene the eating disorder than medication. In addition, the changes with the cognitive/behavioral psychotherapy interventions last more than medication and the deterioration rates are very higher and common. Even in the medicated era, most studies conclude that no advantage of medication over cognitive/behavioral therapy alone in the lessening the bulimic symptoms.

Major Disorders:

Eating disorder has been considered as a disease by psychology studies and its sub fields. Major eating disorder diseases are as under:-

Anorexia nervosa:

Anorexia nervosa can be determined as some one’s consciousness about the wait loss for bad body image; this consciousness is as serious as to death. There are two types of anorexia nervosa Restricting type and Binge/Purge type. This type of eating disorder is observed very commonly in the society. The modern and stylish word has made it necessary to have a stable body image. This necessity made people conscious about their stylish looks and to have a good body image. Which create seriously bad impact on the heath of people, it is as serious as to death.

Bulimia nervosa:

Bulimia nervosa refers to the over eating, or to eating under the lead of guilt, shame, embarrassment, and complete failure feeling. The bulimics wants to get control over them. This neurotic behavior is to eat as it can be and to regain the energy to overcome the failure feelings. This situation is also harmful for the well being of a person, the over eating can be resultantly make the people fatty. Fat create numerous heath problems, which will ultimately failure the body system of a person.

Rumination syndrome:

Rumination Syndrome is not very common and very rarely diagnosed chronic eating disorder. Patients normally feel vomiting after eating the food. Rumination syndrome verily misdiagnosed as bulimia nervosa by the doctors, it is because of lack of awareness about the disorders, the resemblance in symptoms, and the common age group of the patients.

Orthorexia nervosa:

Orthorexia nervosa was treated as Anorexia and now it is recognized as a new discovered eating disorder disease. This is an obsession of a specific type of healthy food. The patients of orthorexia nervosa do the things like planning the next meals. This determines that the patients have strict schedule of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The patients with orthorexia nervosa are very conscious to know about what other eat.

Selective eating disorder:

Selective Eating Disorder (SED) refers to the selected food eating disorder. It can be observed in the society that most children has this disease they does not eat the meals that they do not like, selective foods would be preferred by the children which some time can be overcome by the patients. On the other hand some patients will continue with the selective eating disorder. These people preferred a specific food variety and do not like to eat other then selective food. This kind of eating disorder will affect in the middle childhood and adolescence, the result of this kind of disorder will be conflict, anxiety, and social avoidance.

Compulsive overeating:

Obsessive Compulsive Overeating also known as binge eating, it is one of the very common mental disorders with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The patient in this disease eat very large amount of food in a short time. A very large amount of binge patient is struggling in the United States. The disorder can be developed in any age, but very common in young children. The patient with this disease feels disgust and guilt which lead to depression.

Causes of Disorder:

Environmental:

The environmental causes are very obvious which include family and friends influence. Media is the second largest influential element on the eating disorder because of its advertisement of different food items and to encourage the people to modernize the life styles. In this regard the media advertise the thin products or the products which are not healthy. But the projection has much fascination and affection in it, so, people would go with the fascination and modernization.

Biological:

The biblical factors are also influential on the eating disorder. Patients with severe obsessive compulsive disorder, depression or bulimia were all found to have abnormally low serotonin levels. Neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine are secreted by the intestines and central nervous system during digestion.

Developmental etiology:

In the family system during the development of children parents does not care of the eating activities of their children. They develop the self care system and prepare a diet plan for them. This creates massive destruction and made them patient of eating disorder.

Trauma:

Eating disorder also is treated under experienced trauma, many of the eating problems begins as continued existence approach other than narcissism or passion with appearance. According to sociologist Becky Thompson, “eating disorders stemming from women of varying socio-economic status, sexual orientation and race, and finds that eating disorders and a disconnected relationship with one’s body is commonly a response to environmental stresses, including sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, racism, and poverty.”

Psychology has explored countless secrets of human brain, and personality and psychology considered as a study of human body, personality, relation between mind and body, behavior, emotional and mental disorders. It is obvious that eating is must to live, but it is also a fact that life is not for eating. For instance, when someone eats healthy food but it is eaten large in amount, it will not give you health and well being. The over eating is circled in eating disorder, and when it is less eating it will affect your health not to keep you healthy, so, less and excessive eating both are disordered eating and only the temperance in eating will be healthy. With all other disorders, the eating disorders should be intervene through medication and through behavioral therapy. The effectiveness of interventions used to treat eating disorder can be determined by the patient’s condition of consciousness about the health and diet. Health is only the guarantee of prosperous and peaceful life, without good health a happy life cannot be lived.

Diet, Nutrition and Healthy Living

Diet and nutrition products have helped countless individuals maintain a healthier lifestyle, by providing essential vitamins and minerals in an otherwise poor diet. Diet and nutrition is important for everyone but it is especially important for runners, or for those who exercise vigorously. If you are dieting, you are ill, or you are regularly eating a fast-food diet, you should be especially concerned about what you and your family are getting as proper diet and nutrition from your food.

Nutrition is important for everyone because food gives our bodies the nutrients they need to stay healthy, grow, and work properly. In 2005, the government’s revised Dietary Guidelines for Americans introduced the term “nutrient density,” which sounds complicated but simply refers to how much nutrition a food provides. Nutrient density is especially important when overall nutrition and health is considered.

Experts believe these nutritional substances may help prevent heart disease, fight certain cancers, ward off dementia, and even slow certain aging processes. And so if you are like many of us, not quite hitting the entire food pyramid, you might be trying to outwit your body by giving it nutritional supplements to make up for the sins of food-group omissions.

Even the results of the best diet supplements are improved by proper nutrition and regular exercise, because when people eat healthy foods and exercise, they feel better, have more energy and are less prone to health problems. Health and nutrition products can help ensure that adequate levels of nutrients provide your body what it needs to stay healthy.

Nutritional snacks can be very important to our overall health and nutrition. When you snack, you can fill in nutritional gaps, if you boost your intake of fruits and vegetables. This helps you keep your mood on an even keel, and helps with appetite suppression and weight control. However, snacking can be a bad thing too, and can definitely contribute to weight gain. If you’re searching for a villain in America’s obesity epidemic, most nutritionists tell you to put one picture on the wanted poster: a cold, bubbly glass of soda pop.

Good nutrition is one of the ways the body restores itself to health. Restoring and maintaining good nutrition is a key principle in the management of diseases like Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Diet and nutrition concerns of patients with inflammatory bowel disease are extremely common, and appropriate. Because IBS, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis are diseases of the digestive tract, it is only natural that you will have many questions about diet and nutrition, if you have been diagnosed with one of these disorders. As research continues, we will learn even more about the relationship between nutrition and IBS, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis, and how to treat and or avoid them altogether.

As you can see, good nutritional habits and adequate caloric intake are very important. However, it’s desirable to also maintain intake of at least some dairy products because they represent such a good source of nutrition, particularly calcium and protein, contributing to even more good nutrition. And, good nutrition quite simply equates to good health.

In summary, while diet and nutrition may not play a role in causing IBS, and some other digestive diseases, maintaining a well-balanced diet that is rich in nutrients can help you to live a healthier life. As stated earlier, if you are dieting, ill or eating a fast-food diet, you should be concerned about what you and your family are getting as a proper diet and nutrition from your food.

Or, maybe you feel as though you are just missing something while trying to sift through all the information out there about diet and nutrition. Either way, it is up to each of us to learn all we can about diet and nutrition, and then to apply that knowledge to our own lives. Good nutrition puts us on the path to good health, and good health is something we all should desire in order to live and be happy.

Popular Diets – Great Ways to Lose Weight and Maintain Your Perfect Body Shape For a Long Time

If you check it out, you may find that almost everyone is following some dieting guideline or another, while others are planning to introduce popular diet fads into the world. Many people are on diets, but they aren’t sure if it will actually work for them, while others who are on diets are living testimonies of the fantastic effects of dieting. Many who are obese or overweight are always trying some new diet or another, to lose weight and stay healthy. There are several types of popular diets that have been proven to be effective in losing weight. Let’s look a few of the more popular diets that many people are trying.

The Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is also called the “low carb” diet and it became popular in 1972 when Dr. Atkins published his first book on Nutritional Approach. This particular diet was designed to make you lose weight fast, however, if you are not careful, then the weight will return after a period of time. This diet is one of the most popular diets today, but it’s a very controversial subject, as many have complained of heart problems and kidney damage due to following the guidelines of this diet.

The Medifast Diet

The Medifast diet is another popular one, mainly because the food comes pre-packed and therefore all you need to do is microwave and eat the food. In this diet, you will forgo complicated food preparations and you will get a wide selection of different types of meals for all your meal servings which includes snack bars, eggs, soups, cold and hot drinks and even puddings; to give you a few examples. The reason why Medifast is so popular is because it will guide you from one level to another until you have reached your dream weight.

The Paleo Diet

Certainly a diet fad! The emphasis is on the kind of food that people ate ages ago, like in the days of the ancient cave men or people who inhabited forests. This diet allows you to eat foods like nuts, roots, meat and fish, while you are not allowed to eat grains, dairy, salt and sugar. Even though Anthropologists have dismissed claims of its effect, there are some who have testified to its contribution to help them lose weight. (Come to think of it anyone would lose weight if they abstain from sugar.)

The South Beach Diet

This particular diet was designed by a Dietician and a Heart Specialist. It also increased in popularity due to its intended purpose of preventing cardiovascular diseases. This diet consists of three stages with a central objective of replacing all the bad fatty acids with good fatty acids. Even though each stage will allow you to eat certain foods until you reach your ideal weight, the problem is, it doesn’t last long, mainly because the weight creeps right back on.

All these popular diets are only effective in helping you maintain your perfect weight, if you continue to eat those healthy natural fresh foods in moderate portions. If you are on a popular diet be certain to set realistic goals. Also, you will need to practice sensible eating habits to get that shape that you have always desired.

The Ultimate Weight Loss Product Guide

Are you one of the many who may be tempted by advertisements for diet pills and other weight loss products promising easy, quick ways to lose weight? Were you aware that a simple 30 minute infomercial can cost anywhere from $80,000 to 120,000 dollars to make. Pretty crazy don’t you think? Yet time and time again you see countless weight loss infomercials selling product after product.

Fad Diets and many diet pills are pitched by persistent advertising and many people, possibly even you will join the parade of followers. Yet 95% of the time, these weight loss products will prove to fail you once again — leaving you with nothing but charges to your credit card and set-up to regain all those pounds. So why are people constantly and willingly paying their hard earned money for these weight loss products?

“Stop Throwing Your Hopes Into Every Weight Loss Product That Comes By”

We want you to stop being their guinea pigs and understand and realize just how many of these diet pills and other weight loss companies are cashing in at your expense. To help you avoid getting “trapped or suckered” into believing or choosing a weight loss product or service that does nothing but contribute and add to the problems.

Stop Getting Taken! The following factors are exactly what many weight loss products and services use and exploit in order to get you to buy into their utterly false claims…

Factor 1 — HOPE
Hope is a good thing, you need hope. But the problem is that many times you have such high hopes that you put those hopes into anything, regardless if its legit or not. By putting your hopes of weight loss into products and services that are not providing the necessary means you need, your ultimately setting yourself up for failure and your hopes will get crushed. Have hope, just make sure you put your hope into the right service and don’t let your strong sense of hope blind you into not seeing the red-flags and other lies.

Bottom Line — Don’t let your strong sense of hope make you believe things that are not true!

Factor 2 — Emotion
Lets face it, your weight and appearance can be a touchy, emotional subject. And it should be, its your life! But how many times have you seen a weight loss infomercial where someone breaks down into tears while talking about how miserable they were when overweight and how deeply happy and relieved they are now … and how they owe it all to that particular weight loss product or “revolutionary system.” The product is doing this intentionally!

Weight loss products know you’re emotional about how you look … they also know that when your emotional, it causes you to act on impulse. They have a better chance to “hook- you” when you’re emotional and “touched.” Products try to stir up your emotion in an effort to get you to act impulsively and buy into their claims. You should be emotional about your health and the way you look, but don’t let them use your emotion against you. Don’t let your emotion blind you into not seeing the red-flags and real reason that they’re really there — to get the “2 easy payments of $39.99″ out of you!

Factor 3 — Marketing Savvy & Media
Just because you’re constantly seeing weight loss ads and commercials for diet pills and the new “xxx diet” does not mean it works and is credible. Just because you see a celebrity hosting the weight loss infomercial or program (who has been generously paid off … do you really think a movie star is going to do an infomercial for free?) does not mean it’s effective. What it does mean is that they have thousands, if not millions of dollars to pay for advertising and marketing so they can get their product in front of you, be it radio, television, internet etc. so they can constantly “pitch you.”

How affective is marketing? Recently, a diet pill company was making the bogus claim “take our weight loss pill and you can eat what you want and burn fat as you sleep” and made $152 million in profit over 3 short years by doing radio commercials at over 600 stations across the country! That is until the Government stepped in and cracked down! And all the restaurants that are adding the “new xxx diet approved” menus, all they’re doing is trying to make money too! Restaurants know that people are willingly paying, so why wouldn’t they add low carb diet dishes (even though the number of calories in these dishes are alarmingly high and will cause you to pack on pounds!)

Realize, that just because you see a weight loss product time and time again on the television or radio does not mean it will be effective in losing permanent weight. All these weight loss companies are trying to do is get their product in front of you over and over so it will be there when you’re ready to buy. Many people make the mistake of assuming a product is credible simply because it’s constantly on television.

Factor 4 – Repetition
Diet pills and other weight loss products figure they more they can get in front of you, the more likely you’re going to buy it when that time comes. Lets face it, if you were interested in building a deck, when that time comes don’t you think your going to choose the “smith deck company” that you saw time and time again on TV. Most people will simply use the one that’s most convenient and right there. Many times people just pick the first product or service that comes to their head and have high hopes that everything will just work out. Unfortunately, many times it’s no different with weight loss products.

This is exactly why you see the same infomercial every day, every hour of the day for like 1 month straight … and then all of a sudden it’s gone. They get in, make their money on desperate people looking to lose weight, and then they get out! And if you see it again in like 3-4 months down the road, this means they made a lot of money on it previously and are back to make more. They wouldn’t be there if they weren’t making money – period!

The product is trying to pound it into you head and keep coming at you because they know, the more you see it, the more likely you will be to buy it. Don’t get suckered! Just because they are always there, does not mean it will help you.

Factor 5 – Pressure
This is a big one. The bottom line — when people are pressured they act impulsively. Often times you put way to much pressure on yourself. In today’s society so much emphasis is placed on health and appearance. People feel pressured to look a certain way and this is certainly the case with being overweight as people will do anything to lose weight. Weight loss products go out of their way to put additional pressure on you, knowing that it will cause you to act and buy. Many of the weight loss infomercials are very good at the art of getting you to believe that … “finally this is it, the only product that’s going to change your life!” The truth is that all they’re doing is adding additional pressure.

Bottom Line — Don’t let the pressure you feel to lose weight allow you to buy into and believe false claims. A sense of urgency to lose weight is good, but don’t feel so pressured that it causes you to act impulsively and spend your hard – earned money on the first thing you come across that sounds good. When you feel pressured, it will allow you to start believing and putting your hopes into things that are not true because you feel like “I need to do something about my weight and I need to do it now!” Weight loss products know this and that is what they are wanting you to do. Don’t allow it and don’t allow yourself to be one of their guinea pigs! It will just cost you in the end!

General Rules To Keep In Mind When
Dealing With Weight Loss Products

Be Realistic — If there was a way to “lose 30 pounds in 30 days and keep it off” or “eat what you want and still lose weight” don’t you think that we would all look like supermodels?

Use Common Sense — If there were magic diet pills or easy way to lose weight and keep it off, don’t you think the top movie stars and celebrities who make millions and millions of dollars would have it.

Allow Yourself To Believe Both Sides — If you’re going to make the mistake of believing the lies and fabrications many weight loss products are telling you, at least allow yourself to believe that they may indeed be “lying and deceiving you” as well. It’s only fair that you allow yourself to look at both sides as this will help you to form a better judgment.

“If It Was That Easy…” Lets face it, if it was as easy as all these health and weight loss infomercials and ab contraptions make it, the statistic of 95% failing would not exist! There would be no problems. Don’t believe their lies and fabrications

Characteristics of Major and Minor Eating Disorders

There are many types of eating disorders. We are most familiar with the three major disorders Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder. However, there are many minor disorders effecting millions of people like Prader-Willi Syndrome and Night Eating Syndrome. This is a short list of both major and minor eating disorders describing symptoms and treatment.

Anorexia Nervosa

A potentially dangerous and life threatening disease characterized by a person’s fear of gaining weight therefore resorting to self-starvation and excessive weight loss. Anorexia typical appears in girls during adolescence and may be carried into adulthood. Some boys and men suffer from anorexia; however, it is more common in women.

There are four primary symptoms according to the National Eating Disorder Association.

* An intense fear of being “fat” even if they are underweight.

* Resistance to maintain a healthy or average body weight.

* Loss of menstrual periods in girls and women.

* Poor or distorted body image resulting in denial of serious loss of weight, or low body weight.

When people starve themselves, they are not only affecting their body weight, but also their overall nutritional well being. A few potential health risks for people with anorexia nervosa are:

* Dry hair and skin

* Severe dehydration, resulting in kidney failure

* Slow heart rate and low blood pressure

* Fainting, fatigue and weakness

* Osteoporosis

Treatment requires counseling addressing the underlying psychological factors contributing to the disease. Often a person will be treated psychologically, medically and nutritionally. Family and a strong support group is encouraged. Each person is different and treatment varies depending on the severity of the illness.

Bigorexia (Muscle Dysmorphia)

Typically seen in men, especially bodybuilders or weight lifters, bigorexia is a body image disorder where the person feels their body is too small. Therefore, they spend excessive hours at the gym working out. Sometimes seen as the “reverse anorexia” However, no matter how big or muscular a person becomes they still feel their bodies are too small.

There are no true symptoms of bigorexia other than a person’s excessive attention to body image. Bigorexia is rarely diagnosed because, it is socially acceptable for men to be muscular. Bigorexia may not be as life threatening as anorexia, but it does have dangers. Many people with the disease are prone to steroid abuse and in extreme cases; the disorder may affect the person’s work and personal life.

Binge Eating Disorder (Compulsive Overeating)

A person with binge eating disorder will compulsively overeat without throwing-up, abusing laxatives or excessively exercising to compensate for the large amounts of food they’ve just consumed.

According to the National Eating Disorder Association some signs or symptoms of binge eating disorder may be:

* Eating large quantities of food in short periods of time

* Feeling out of control over eating behavior

* Feeling ashamed by their behavior

* Sometimes eating in secret

Health problems associated with binge eating disorder are similar to those associated with obesity like, high blood pressure, heart disease, gallbladder disease and type 2 diabetes. Mental health problems like depression and anxiety usually accompany health issues.

Treatment usually involves psychological counseling to help determine the underlying causes for the disorder. A strong support system by family and friends is encouraged. It is suggested that overweight people with binge eating disorder try to conquer their demons with psychological, medical and group help prior to trying to lose weight.

Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia is one of the three major eating disorders. Approximately 80 percent of bulimia patients are women. It is characterized by a person’s compulsion to “purge’ the food they’ve just eaten by throwing-up, abusing laxatives or exercising excessively.

There are two types of bulimia nervosa, purging and nonpurging. Nonpurgers will usually compensate for their overeating with excessive exercise or fasting.

The National Eating Disorder Association lists the three primary symptoms of bulimia nervosa as:

* Regular intake of large amounts of food with a sense of loss of control of eating behavior.

* Regular use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors such as, vomiting, laxative abuse or compulsive exercise.

* Extreme concern with body weight and shape.

There are many health problems associated with bulimia. These are usually associated with the method the person chooses to “purge” their food. These may include:

* Inflammation or rupture of the esophagus from frequent vomiting

* Tooth decay and damage from stomach acids.

* Electrolyte imbalances

* Chronic bowel problems, because of laxative abuse.

Depending on its severity, bulimia nervosa can only be treated with extensive psychological and medical counseling. Often bulimia is connected to deeper emotional and mental dilemmas.

Night Eating Syndrome (NES)

Night Eating Syndrome is a relatively new disorder. A person with night eating syndrome will often eat large quantities of food after their last meal of the day. Usually just before bed and during the middle of the night. They in turn will skip breakfast and not start eating until the middle of the day. Those with night eating syndrome will not just indulge in the occasional midnight snack, they will typically consume high calorie, low nutritious foods often through the night.

As a result, night eating syndrome effects a person’s overall emotional well-being triggering depression, insomnia and anxiety. Approx. 10 percent of all clinically obese people are believed to have NES.

Since NES is a new disorder it is still being studied there are no concrete treatment options available. Some early reports show the drug Zoloft may be effective in treating the disorder.

Treatment begins with clinical interviews and a few night in sleep study clinics. Some medications are available, but sleeping pills are discouraged.

Nocturnal Sleep-Related Eating Disorder (NS-RED)

Sleep eating disorder is both an eating and sleeping disorder. Those with sleep eating disorder will eat while sleep waking. These people will be completely unaware of their behavior, and have no memories. They typically consume high fat and high sugar foods.

NS-RED often occurs in people who typically diet during the day. About 10 to 15 percent of people with common eating disorders are affecting. Their bodies will over compensate at night, when the person’s will is weaker, for the individual’s lack of eating or starvation during the day. Sometimes stress and anxiety can trigger NS-RED. A person will often wake up in front of the refrigerator or with food on their hands and faces.

Orthorexia Nervosa

Orthorexia Nervosa is not yet a nationally recognized eating disorder. However, it is becoming more recognized. Orthorexia focuses on finding the perfect or pure diet. The person becomes so obsessed with eating nutritiously and healthy they refuse and feel guilty about eating unhealthy foods. They often eliminate all sugars and fats from their diets and no longer enjoy food.

Often people with orthorexia nervosa isolate themselves because they are so concerned about their next healthy meal they refuse to go out to eat with friends and family and insist on preparing their own meals. They sometimes refuse pharmaceutical treatments and insist on “all natural” remedies to individual illnesses.

Although orthorexia is becoming more popular is it not considered a clinical disorder and is not diagnosed or treated. Often it can be connected to other medical disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder and treated that way.

Pica

Pica is usually characterized as the persistent eating of nonnutritive substances like dirt, hair, plastic, paint and more.

This eating disorder is most commonly seen in children. It is considered inappropriate in children older than two with average developmental intelligence. It is also the most common eating disorder in people with developmental disabilities. It is sometimes seen in pregnant women craving dirt or soap to compensate for vitamin deficiencies.

Causes for the disease may include:

* Nutritional deficiencies

* Cultural and family factors

* Stress

* Socioeconomic Status

* Brain damage

* Pregnancy

Health problems occur when the person ingests infectious or hazardous material. Rocks may become stuck in the digestive track backing up bowels and creating constipation. Sharp objects may scratch or cut the esophagus, stomach or intestinal tract, creating internal infections. There is also a high risk of lead poisoning resulting from eating paint.

Pica in children often goes away on its own. Depending on the age and severity of the person, diagnosed psychological counseling is usually suggested. There is very little medical treatment available; however, some hypothesize those with the disease suffer from diminished dopamine levels and may be treated with dopamine medication.

Prader-Willi Syndrome

This is genetic disorder where the person affected never feels full. The disease is also accompanied by low muscle tone, short stature, behavior problems, cognitive disabilities and incomplete sexual development.

Prader-Willi Syndrome is triggered by a defect in the hypothalamus, which normally registers feeling of hunger. The defect makes the person never feel full, no matter how much they eat. Ironically, people with Prader-Willi syndrome need to eat less than those of equal age and height because their bodies have less muscle and tend to burn less calories.

Consequently, those with Prader-Willi syndrome are often overweight and obtain many health risks affiliated with obese people like heart disease, breathing problems and diabetes. There is no cure for Prader-Willi syndrome. Treatment typically requires extremely low-calorie diets and very little access to food. Families will usually have to put locks on refrigerators and cabinet doors. Often those diagnosed with Prader-Willi syndrome will also have obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
Rumination Disorder

People with rumination disorder will voluntary or involuntary regurgitate and re-chew partially digested food. It may be re-swallowed or expelled.

According to emedicine.com, rumination is a rare disease, information and many theories are derived through small and single case studies. Theories include psychosocial factors cultural, socioeconomic, organic, and psychodynamic. It is more predominate in infants and children, and usually remits spontaneously.

Symptoms may include:

* Weight loss

* Halitosis

* Indigestion

* Raw and chapped lips

Health problems and concerns related to rumination disorder are:

* Tooth decay and erosion

* Esophagus damage

* Gastric disorders

* Aspiration

* Choking

* Pneumonia

* Halitosis

Treatments typically include psychological and medical counseling. In some extreme cases surgery, gastroesophageal fundoplication, a procedure usually reserved for people with acid reflux disease, may be used.

Many of these eating disorders are uncommon and may vary in many degrees. Always seek medical attention prior to treatment or self-diagnosis.

The Effects of Media on the Skinny Side of Eating Disorders

What is the most deadly psychological disorder today? If you guessed an eating disorder, then you are right. According to WebMD, eating disorders are illnesses that cause a person to adopt harmful eating habits. So, does this make WebMD just a great resource, or is this really true, and is an eating disorder really a dangerous illness? Most sufferers of an eating disorder are often mocked about their problem, and they are not taken seriously. People should not misinterpret or disbelieve sufferers of an eating disorder because it is, in fact, a very serious illness. There are, however, minor cases of eating disorders but there are far too many deaths related to them, thus we must take this issue very seriously and approach it with care.

Why are eating disorders the greatest killers among the many different psychological disorders? This is because of the media, as well as the disorder’s dramatic and deadly affects on the body. Today, media is in our lives no matter where we go. From television, radio, and the news, to magazines, newspapers, and the internet, media plays a big role in the spreading ideas, norms, and styles to people. Media spreads information really quickly to millions of people. Media is around people no matter where they turn, and they face it on a daily basis in some form. So, how is media related to eating disorders? This question, and many other questions, will be answered after we get a better understanding of what an eating disorder is, its characteristics, statistics, and ways to prevent and treat it. I will, however, focus only on anorexia and bulimia because they are more affected by the media than overeating disorders are.

People with eating disorders obsess about their intake of food, and they spend a lot of time thinking about their weight and body image. Their body is badly affected both emotionally and physically. People with an eating disorder may suffer from a number of different symptoms, and not everyone gets the same symptoms as they vary from individual to individual. According to the Help Guide-Mental Health Issues, even though anorexia is the most revealed eating disorder in the media, bulimia is the most prevalent eating disorder.

A person suffering from anorexia sees themselves as fat when they are, in fact, skinny and underweight. Their weight does not match their height, activity level or age. They get bad memory, feel depressed, have a fear of gaining weight, feel light headed, and often faint. Women with anorexia may have problems with their menstrual cycle such as missed or late periods, as well as trouble getting pregnant. Woman who are pregnant have a higher risk of a miscarriage and a higher risk to need to deliver their baby through C-section. People suffering from anorexia can also have muscle and joint problems, kidney stones, kidney failure, anemia, bloating, constipation, low levels of potassium, magnesium, and sodium in their bodies, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, and heart failure. Some physical signs that can be seen on a person suffering from anorexia are dry or yellow skin, brittle nails, more hair growth on their body, and thin and brittle hair. A person with anorexia may also get cold easily, bruise easily, and feel down a lot.

A person suffering from bulimia can get the same effects as a person suffering from anorexia since both disorders involve the loss of major and rapid weight, which leads to very unhealthy changes in the body. Symptoms between anorexia and bulimia sufferers differ in the way that sufferers of bulimia would eat a lot of food in a short amount of time and then force themselves to throw up, when people with anorexia just don’t want to eat altogether. People with bulimia also misuse laxatives and go on strict diets of fasting and rigorous exercising. Sufferers from eating disorders in general are affected emotionally, psychologically, behaviorally, and socially. Emotional and psychological changes include increased anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, guilt, and low self esteem. Some changes in behavior of a person suffering from an eating disorder include dieting, frequent visits to the bathroom after eating, a change in fashion, and constantly checking their weight. Some social changes of a person suffering from an eating disorder may include isolation, being anti-social, avoiding social gatherings where food is involved, and a loss of interest for hobbies. Other physical signs of eating disorders in general include edema, a reduction in metabolism, sore throats, stomach problems, heartburn, and hypoglycemia; which leads to irrational thinking, shaking, confusion, irritability, and comas.

Eating disorders have a big impact on society on a small and on a large scale; meaning both individuals and society as a whole dedicate significant parts of their lives to the struggles of dealing with eating disorders. A lot of money and time go into the troubles of dealing with an eating disorder, as well as into the measures taken in order to treat and prevent them. Eating disorders are very common amongst celebrities, mainly because their profession puts pressure on them to be skinny. The majority of celebrities that we see in the media are all skinny, and most of them are anorexic or bulimic. The fans of these celebrities look at the bodies of their idols and they want to be like them. The problem with this is that anorexic and skinny celebrities do not make good role models for their fans because their skinny figures are not a healthy look to follow. Famous people believe that in order to be successful they must be skinny. This is not true. Celebrities expose their looks and body image to the media where fans can see them and get the wrong idea that their idol’s looks are acceptable when their idols are only trying to lose weight for their own “success”. In a weight article, Monica Seles stated that “Women in society have much tougher pressure to be thin.” It is like a cycle; celebrities are skinny in order to impress their fans and companies. They send their fans the wrong idea, thus making their fans lose weight. In the end, everyone has the idea that they must be thin and they must lose weight, thus, being skinny becomes the norm.

According to the article “Eating Disorders and Body Image in the Media” by Heather Mudgett, media can be very hypocritical because while the media shares news about celebrities dying from eating disorders, it also contains images of underweight celebrities modeled as if everyone should look like them. We might also see an article about a person dying from an eating disorder in a magazine, and on the next page we might see an underweight model, modeling a popular product. The underweight images of people in the media give consumers the wrong idea that being skinny is ok and that there is nothing wrong with it, when, in fact, being that skinny can lead to a person’s own death. Consumers spend so much money on products and services that will help them lose weight, such as weight loss drinks, nutrition bars, pills, laxatives, weight loss videos, and they even take weight loss classes. People also misuse drugs and liquids in order to force themselves to lose weight, and this can be very stressing to the body. Any time that we do something against our body’s natural functions, we hurt our body and put ourselves at great risk to further health problems in the future.

So many celebrities suffer and have died from eating disorders. Singer Karen Carpenter was struggling with anorexia and bulimia and after she went to treatment for years, everyone thought that she had recovered and was doing better. After that, she was found dead on the bathroom floor in her parent’s house. She had a heart attack and it was said that the result of it was because she had abused the drug Ipecac for years. Ipecac is a liquid that is used to induce vomiting, and it is often abused by anorexics and bulimics.

According to the South Carolina Department of Health, about seven million American women and one million American men have an eating disorder. About one in every two hundred women in America has anorexia, and about two or three out of one hundred women have bulimia. About half of Americans know at least one person who has an eating disorder. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, about 5% to 10% of people diagnosed with anorexia will die within 10 years of having the disease, about 18% to 20% of people will be dead after having the disease for 20 years and only 30% to 40% of people will recover from it. It is very scary fact that the rate of mortality for people with anorexia is twelve times higher than the rate of death of all of the causes of death for females from 15 to 24 years old. (South Carolina Department of Health). Nearly 20% of the people who have anorexia will die prematurely from health problems and heart problems due to their eating disorder. About 95% of people with an eating disorder are between the ages of 12 and 25, about 50% of females between the ages of 11 and 13 see themselves as overweight, and around 80% of 13 year old’s have, at some point, tried to lose weight. It is a very sad fact that over 80% of females who have made an effort to go get treatment for their eating disorder, have not received the full treatment that they need in order to fully recover. This often leads to the disorder reoccurring and to the patients hurting their health even more. Obviously, eating disorders are really serious and they should be treated as soon as possible.

Since eating disorders are such important problems facing society today, researchers have used psychological theories to try to solve these problems including group therapy, medical treatment, and nutritional counseling. Eating disorders are treatable, and a person who has an eating disorder does have a chance of getting better, however, if the media continues to idolize skinny celebrities and condone their extremely thin size, it will continue to aid people in trying to lose weight. Having an eating disorder is like a really bad habit that needs to be stopped. A lot of people do not have the ability to stop this bad habit on their own, thus they need help from professional doctors and even family. There are several different methods used to treat an eating disorder. Since an eating disorder affects individuals both physically and psychologically, the treatment for an eating disorder has to satisfy both the physical and psychological aspect of the disorder. Medicine alone wont help a patient get better. In order to get positive long term effects from the treatment, a patient has to receive a mix of medical and psychological help for their disorder. Some therapies that psychologists use to determine the problem and treatment of an eating disorder are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, rational emotive therapy, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Cognitive behavioral therapy allows psychologists to see the patient’s thought process, interpersonal therapy involves dealing with difficult relationships with others, rational emotive therapy involves studying a patient’s unhelpful beliefs, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy involves looking at a person’s past experiences. All of this information can help a psychologist find the problem, and come up with the solution to the problem. Group therapy is a helpful part of treatment that allows sufferers of the similar eating disorders get together to discuss their problem. Groups are able to discuss coping strategies, ask and answer questions, and talk about ways to change their behavior. Medical treatment is necessary in order to make sure that the patient receives full treatment. Drugs such as anti-depressants can be prescribed by an experienced doctor who knows your condition in order to help treat your illness. Nutritional counseling is another effective and good way to help treat eating disorders. Dieticians and nutritionists can help patients understand what a well-balanced diet is and what foods they should eat on a daily basis. Nutritional counseling can also help patients face their fears about food and get over their fears of being afraid to eat.

A lot of people are confused about what “normal eating” is so they need nutritional counseling to help them get back on track. Not that many people who suffer from an eating disorder go to get treated for it. According to the South Carolina Department of Health , only 1 out of 10 people who suffer from an eating disorder go to get treatment. The cost of treatment for an outpatient is very expensive. Costs for outpatient treatment can be over $100,000. In the US, the cost of treatment for an eating disorder per day is anywhere from $500 to $2,000. On average, a person in inpatient treatment has to pay $30,000 a month. People with eating disorders need approximately 3-6 months of inpatient care in order to recover. The cost of treatment for an eating disorder is ridiculously high, and the high costs might be a reason that people do not go to get treated. It is very hard for most families to pay for the treatment of their illness, especially when insurance companies don’t usually cover eating disorder costs. Another way to help reduce the number of people with eating disorders is to educate people about the dangers of eating disorders through media. The media is a good tool to help educate people on the dangers of eating disorders, but it is also a tool that hurts people by condoning the appearances of skinny people who suffer from such disorders. Another way that eating disorders can be treated and minimizes is through the “Doll Experiment”. People were shown that if a human being had the same attributes as a Barbie doll, the body would not be able to hold itself because of its awkward shape and structure. This is a good way to show people that a Barbie doll isn’t necessarily what women today should aim towards looking like. In the same way, the celebrities we see on TV are not people who we should try to look like either.

I believe that as long as the media continues to idolize thin celebrities, the effects of education about the dangers of eating disorders through the media will not be effective. For each step that they take forward to solve the problem, they take two steps back by continuing to idolize thin celebrities. It is not a question of what effects have a greater likelihood of causing an eating disorder, but it is a fact that media does contribute to people developing and maintaining eating disorders. There are other causes of eating disorders, such as interpersonal or biological factors, but if the problem of media influencing eating disorders can be changed, there will be fewer cases of eating disorders. We have to take one step at a time in order to solve this very serious problem of eating disorders, and a great place to start is to change the fact that media influences eating disorders. There is not one cause of eating disorders, but media is a big influence to them since media reaches so many people. Personally, I think that group therapy very helpful in the treatment process of an eating disorder. Victims of an eating disorder are able to ask questions and receive answers in order to better understand their situation.

This is very helpful and it might make the victims of eating disorders feel more comfortable knowing that there are other people out there who are going through the same thing. Unfortunately, people are put under so much pressure to be thin by watching skinny celebrities all over the media be idolized. If they are being idolized does that means that they are good role models and their behaviors should be followed? No, most of the time, celebrities are not good role models. I believe that early childhood education is very important because I think that eating disorders start at an early age when children are naive and susceptible to being changed by others. Educating young kids about the media and how to criticize media is a very important step to reducing the number of people with eating disorders. Since media has such a big influence on eating disorders, children should be able to effectively criticize it and not fall victim to its schemes.

Personally, I don’t think that the media will ever be an effective resource for people to learn the truth and to learn about eating disorders. The media spreads a lot of false information and people tend to misinterpret the messages they hear on TV. Companies try to sell us products that will reduce our weight and make ourselves look “beautiful” by spending millions of dollars on advertisements. Consumers spend a lot of money and time trying to lose weight and buying these products that are not what the body needs. I believe that our bodies know what they need and ever one’s body is different. Everyone has a different metabolism and shape, and we have to learn how to love ourselves for who we are. We need to teach children at a young age that what they say on TV is not what it is cracked up to be and that they need to have self confidence, because if they don’t create an image for themselves, the media will do it for them.

Impact Of Nutrition On The National Education And Healthy Growth

Nutrition is an unavoidable factor in education and health growth of a nation. A healthy student is a productive student. Good nutrition is increasingly perceived as an investment in human capital that yields returns today as well as in the future, while bad nutrition is a treat to the nation. The global loss of social productivity in 1990 is caused by four overlapping types of malnutrition â?? stunting and disorders related to iodine iron and vitamin A deficiency â?? amounted to almost 46 million years of productive disability â?? free life nutrition raises returns on investment in education and health care.

A body of literature observed that there is a heavy decline in knowledge in Nigeria from 1980s unlike the past years. Some attributed this decline to the malnutrition during the past civil war. A researcher noted that in the 1980s Nigeria had the lowest number of indigenous engineers of any Third World country. The teaching of English, which is the language of instruction beyond primary school, had reached such poor levels that university faculty complained their inability to understand the written work of their students due to ineffective communication there is a lot of quack graduates and workers in the country. By 1990 the crisis in education was such that it was predicted that in few decade to come, there would be insufficient personnel to run essential services of the country. This calls for a serious attention before the nation losses all her skilled labour force. I have categories these problems into two major nutritional factors, the problem of undernutrition and malnutrition. The purpose of this write â?? up is to review the impact of nutrition on the present and past and necessary steps taken to arrest the situation. It will also provide some relevant solutions to the problem.

NUTRITIONAL PROBLEMS:

Nigeria as a country is characterized by two major nutritional problems which includes undernutrition and micronutrient. The rest have little impact and may be reserved for now.
Undernutrition is characterized by inadequate intake of macronutrients. It often starts in utero and may extend throughout the life cycle. It also spans generations. Undernutrition occurs during pregnancy, childhood and adolescence, and has a cumulative negative impact on the birthweight of future babies. A baby who has suffered intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) as a fetus is effectively born malnourished, and has a much higher risk of dying in infancy. The consequences of being born malnourished extend into adulthood. During infancy and early childhood, frequent or prolong infections and inadequate intakes of nutrients (particularly energy, iron, protein, vitamin A, and Zinc) may add to the contribution of IUGR to preschool underweight and stunting. In Nigerian situation, infants after period of exclusive breast feeding are followed up with weaning which consist of pap, akamu, ogi, or koko and is made from maize (Zee Mays), millet (pennisetum americanum), or guinea corn (sorghum spp.). People from low income groups seldom feed meat, eggs, or fish to their infants, because of socio-economic factors, taboos, and ignorance.

In Anambra State, Nigeria, Agu observed that pap contained only 0.5% protein and less than 1% fat, as compared with 9% protein and 4% fat in the original corn. This is usually due to poor processing. Akinele and Omotola investigated the energy and protein intake of infants and children of the low income group. They reported that about one-third to one-half of the infants suffered varying degrees of malnutrition and 10% were wasted and stunted. A more recent Nigerian National Survey conducted by the Demographic and health Survey (DHS) in 1990 placed the proportion of underweight children under five years of age (those below â??2SD weight-for-age ) at 36% including 12% severely underweight. (below -3 SD). The prevalence of stunting (below â??2 SD height â?? for â?? age) was 43% including 22% severe stunting (below â?? 3SD) while the levels of wasting and severe wasting were 9% and 2% respectively. In 1986 in Ondo State, Nigeria, DHS Survey of children aged 6 to 36 months is 28% prevalence for underweight, 32% for stunting, and 7% for wasting.
For adults and older children, it is usually possible to achieve an adequate protein â?? energy intake by increasing the daily intake of starchy foods of low nutrient density. For infants and small children, however, the volume of the traditional diets maybe too large to allow the child to ingest all the food necessary to cover his or her energy needs. A baby aged four to six months would need 920g of corn gruel to meet daily needs of energy (740 Kcal) and protein (13g). This is an impossible task, considering the size of an in factâ??s stomach.

President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo rightly observed that almost half of children ages 7-13 in Nigerian are continue underweight. A lot of children and adults go to bed starved and some take one meal a day which mostly consists of carbohydrates.

Micronutrient is another hard nut to break in the area of nutrition. It is the inadequate intake of key vitamins and minerals. It can be observed both among the rural and urban dwellers in Nigeria. The lack of vitamins and minerals result in irreversible impairment to child physical and mental development. Apart from the indirect effects on the mother, micronutrient deficiencies during pregnancy have serious implications for the developing fetus. Iodine deficiency disorders may cause foetal brain damage or still birth (mental retardation, delayed motor development) and stunting. Iodine deficiency in during foetal development and infancy has been shown to depress intelligence quotient levels by 10-15 points. Foliate deficiency may result in neural tube or other birth defects and preterm delivery, and both iron deficiency anemic and vitamin A deficiency may have significant implications for the future infantâ??s morbidity and mortality risk, vision, cognitive development reduce their ability to concentrate and fully participate in school and socially interact and develop. It is on record that 40% of children under 5 years of age suffer vitamin A deficiency. It is the major cause of preventable, severe visual impairment and blindness in children. The most vulnerable is a high percentage of pre-schoolchildren and pregnant women who are anemic. These two nutrition problem are enormous in Nigeria situation have a great impact in the economy and social life of the country.

THE EFFECT OF NUTRITION ON NATIONAL EDUCATION:

Nutrition has a dynamic and synergistic relationship with economic growth through the channel of education. Behrman cites three studies suggesting that, by facilitating cognitive achievement, child nutrition and schooling can significantly increase wages. In utero, infant and child nutrition affects later cognitive achievement and learning capacity during school years, ultimately increasing the quality of education gained as a child, adolescent and adult. Parental education affects in utero, infant and child nutrition directly through the quality of care given (Principally maternal) and indirectly through increased household income. Human capital development, primarily through education, has received merited attention as a key to economic development, but early childhood nutrition has yet to obtain the required emphasis as a necessary facilitator of education and human capital development.

A recent research shows that early childhood nutrition plays a key role in cognitive achievement, leaning capacity and ultimately, household welfare. For example, protein – energy malnutrition (PEM) deficiency, as manifested in stunting is linked to lower cognitive development and education achievement; low birth weight is linked to cognitive deficiencies; iodine deficiency in pregnant mothers negatively affects the mental development of their children can cause delayed maturation and diminished intellectual performance; iron deficiency can result in impaired concurrent and future learning capacity. This goes a long way to prove that nutrition have a great impact to national education as Nigeria is fully experiencing this ugly impact now and in time to come.

THE EFFECT OF NUTRITION ON HEALTH GROWTH:

A health nation is a wealthy nation. Nutrition has a great impact on every nationâ??s growth especially as we can see in Nigeria situation. Inadequate consumption of protein and energy as well as deficiencies in key micronutrient such as iodine, vitamin A and iron are also key factors in the morbidity and mortality of children and adults. Mal-nourished children also have lifetime disabilities and weakened immune systems.

Moreover, malnutrition is associated with disease and poor health, which places a further burden on household as well as health care systems. Disease affects a personâ??s development from a very early age. Gastro-enteritis, respiratory infections and malaria are the most prevalent and serious conditions that can affect development in the first three years of life. In factions affect childrenâ??s development by reducing their dietary intake; causing a loss of nutrients; or increasing nutrient demand as a result of fever.

Malnutrition also plays a significant role in morbidity among adults. The link between morbidity from chronic disease and mortality, on the one side, and a high body mass index (BMI), on the other has been recognized and analyzed in developed countries primarily for the purpose of determining life insurance risk. A study on Nigerian men and women has shown mortality rates, among chronically energy â?? deficient people who are mildly, moderately and severely underweight to be 40, 140 and 150 percent greater than rates among non-chronically energy â?? deficient people.
A lack of micronutrients also contributes significantly to the burden of disease. Iron deficiency is associated with malaria, intestinal parasitic infections and chronic infections. Chronic iodine deficiency causes goiter in adults and Children and also affects mental health. Vitamin A deficiency significantly increases the risk of severe illness and death from common childhood infections, particularly diarrhoeal diseases and measles. In areas where vitamin A deficiency exists, children are on average 50 percent more likely to suffer from acute measles. A UN report states that improvement in vitamin A status have been reduction in mortality among children aged one to five.

EVALUATION OF THE PRESENT AND PAST EFFORTS:

There have been series of bold step toward solution finding by government and non-governmental organizations (NGO) to eradicate mal nutrition and its reacted effect both in the present and past, though some proved abortive due to bad government and economic dwindling which characterized the 1980s, to trace this chronologically. In 1983, the U.S. Agency for international Development (USAID) began providing assistance to the Nigerian Federal and State Ministries of Health to develop and implement programs in family planning and child survival. There focus was in three areas, but especially in the government and social services area. It will also be focused on catalyzing the growth and leverage of NGOs working at the community and national levels in health care support and democratization. The USAID committed and $135 million to bilateral assistance programs for the period of 1986 to 1996 as Nigeria undertook an initially successful structural Adjustment program, but later abandon it. Plans to commit $150 million in assistance from 1993 to 2000 were interrupted by strains in US â??Nigeria relations over human right abuses, the failed transition to democracy, and a lack of cooperation from the Nigerian Government on anti â?? narcotics trafficking issues. By the mid â?? 1990â??s these problems resulted in the curtailment of USA ID activities that might benefit the military government.

In 1987, The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), under the principal Researcher Dr. Kenton Dashiell, Launched an ambitions effort in Nigeria to combat widespread malnutrition. They encourage using nutritious economical soybeans in everyday food. They further said that soybeans are about 40% protein â?? rich than any of the common vegetable or animal food source found in Africa. With the addition of maize, rice and other cereals to the soybeans, the resulting protein meets the standards of the United Nations Food and Agricultural organization (FAO). Soybeans also contain about 20% oil which is 85% unsaturated and Cholesterol free. Though that is nice program for alleviation of malnutrition started at period, a lot of socio economic thorns hindered its proper function during this period.

The world health organization (WHO) in 1987 estimated that there were 3 million cases of guinea worm in Nigeria about 2 percent of the world total of 140 million cases making Nigeria the nation with the highest number of guinea worm cases. In affected areas, guinea worm and related complications were estimated to be the major cause of work and school absenteeism.

In August 1987, the federal government launched its primary Health care plan (PHC), which President Ibrahim Babangida announced as the cornerstone of health policy. Intended to affect the entire national population, its main stated objectives included accelerated health care personnel development; improved collection and monitoring of health data; ensured availability of essential drugs in all areas of the country; implementation an expanded Program on Immunization (EPI); improved â??nutritionâ?? throughout the country; promotion of health awareness development of a national family health program; and widespread promotion of oral dehydration therapy for treatment of diarrheal disease in infant and children.

The president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 2002 meeting with the president international Union of Nutritional sciences (IUNS) promised to support a better coordination of nutrition activities and programs in Nigeria, he further said that â??the high prevalence of malnutrition is totally unacceptable to this Government and he assured the IUNS president that he would do everything possible to ensure that resources are available to improve household food security greater access to healthcare services and better caring capacity by mothers including supported for breast feeding promotion.

In the 27th September 2005 Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo Lunched the Nasarawa State School feeding program at the Laminga primary school. The program is fully funded and administrated by the state of Nasarawa, which makes it a unique model in Africa today. The epoch making event is in fulfillment of one of the promises of combating malnutrition especially among children whom he observed that many at the age of 7 â?? 13 years are underweight. He further promises to reach out about 27 million children during the coming 10 years. The NAFDAC are also helping in arresting the issue of malnutrition through making and adequate evaluation of food and drugs used in the country.

Other international bodies and NGO like the World Bank development fund; the world health organization (WHO); the United Nations agencies (UNICEF, UNFPA and UNDP); The African Development Bank; the Ford and Mc Arthur Foundation etc. All of them have contributed their own quarters to the improvement of the nationâ??s health and nutrition.

CONCLUSION:

The greatest Solution to nutrition can be captured in this slogan, â??Catch them youngâ??â??, Children are most vulnerable to malnutrition in Utero and before they reach three years of age, as growth rates are fastest ad they are most dependent on others for care during this period. However, nutrition intervention, such as school feeding program which has started in Nasarawa State among children of school age are also important for strengthening learning capacity. Training and nutrition education is very important. Nutrition education can easily incorporate into primary health care programs. The African Child survival program have reduced the high prevalence of malnutrition in many part of cause and an outcome of under nutrition economic losses from undernutrition includes, as percentages of total losses from all causes: foregone human productivity, 10 â?? 15% ; foregone GDP, % – 10 %.

The government should also use mass media to create necessary attention when needed. The government should also try to reach out to people in the rural areas who have lesser access to variety of government interventions. Moreover, improved nutrition is a particularly powerful antipoverty intervention because it can be achieved at low cost and it has a life long impact. Investment in nutrition is one of the best options for economic growth and better social life.

Cellular Nutrition is the Best Basic Nutrition

Cellular Nutrition is the Best Basic Nutrition

Quite evidently, the very best basic nutrition is absorbed through cellular nutrition. What a joy to hear the excitement in the voice and see the astonishment in the eyes of a person who has started a cell activated nutrition program! The reaction is typical enough that it’s no wonder certain specific programs like these are among the world’s most popular. Yet the happiness and exuberance expressed, about the newly discovered energy level and overall sense of well being that comes with them, is always unique and gratifying.

What is Cellular Nutrition?

Cellular Nutrition is the principle that would be adhered to by a person seeking the very best solid basic nutrition program. It’s been found that in order to be genuinely effective, nutrition must start and stay at the cellular level. This makes great sense because we, our bodies, are made up of trillions of cells, each with its own special function and basic nutritional needs to perform that function. So, it becomes of prime importance not only to find out what each of these specialized cells nutritional requirements are, but then to make sure the correct specific nutrition is delivered to each cell and be properly absorbed by each cell. The Medical Advisory Board researches for the exact best ingredients and calculates the nutrient ratios in the very best supplement nutrition programs available. These programs produce a kind of nutritional efficiency that is optimal nutrition for each and every cell in the body!

Who Should Use One of These Nutrition Programs?

A cellular nutrition program should be part of everyone’s daily regimen. The benefits are immense. Millions of people who’ve tried these programs have reported that they feel better than ever with the greatest energy ever. Some report they’ve never felt or even looked better in their entire life. Most doctor appointments are made by persons complaining of fatigue. The increased incidences of obesity have been associated with an increase in the occurrences of colon, prostate, and breast cancer, and also heart disease. Its been observed that these existing conditions frequently are nutritional issues and that often better eating habits and/or weight loss through optimal nutrition can be a key to the solution for these health challenges. While these programs are not to be considered a ‘cure all’ or medicine for any particular ailment, the results of millions of people who’ve dealt with these health challenges and tried cellular nutrition speak for themselves! Succinctly put, cellular nutrition is a life wellness path choice that promotes metabolic improvement so as to enable all body systems to function at their peak best.

How to Get Started On Cellular Nutrition

Because so many ailments are the result of diets containing foods deficient of nutrition like pre-packaged or fast food meals, it is strongly recommended that you replace those meals with a diet promoting cellular nutrition absorption of healthy nutrients. Three items are highly recommended as a simple basic nutrition foundation that will lead to excellent nutrient absorption at the cellular level:

1) A healthy nutritional meal with at least 9 grams of 98% digestible protein. (Some protein shakes are among the most technically advanced foods available today)
(2) A multivitamin with micro nutrition from numerous vitamins, minerals and botanical herbs.
(3) A cell activating supplement formula for repairing and reawakening the villi in the small intestine, increasing the nutrient absorption through cell activation for increased vitamin, mineral and food assimilation and intake effectiveness. These three kinds of product provide the foundation of an excellent cellular nutrition absorption program for the body’s essential basic nutritional needs.

In conclusion, should you be looking into the efficiency of nutrition and what it can mean to your health challenges and goals, or even if you just want to look and feel your best with great energy, check into a cellular nutrition program. You will see clearly that, for our bodies, the very healthiest and best basic nutrition is cellular nutrition.

Start you healthy weight loss and quick weight loss workouts slowly. That means that you should work yourself up to doing advanced workouts. My working out started with cardiovascular activity, and body training. I would suggest that you do the same. Body training will consist of using your own body weight to train your muscles. This means that you do push-ups, sit-ups & crunches, pull-ups, squats, lunges, dips, reverse crunches, calf-raises, and flutter kicks. These are excellent exercises to start Phase II of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss, and builds up your muscles’ endurance. Do as many minutes of cardiovascular exercise that you can, following the completion of your body training exercises. Start yourself at ten minutes and work your way up to thirty minutes. This is the preparation step necessary for a successful Phase II of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss.

The next step of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss is to move your fitness tuning efforts into the gym. Once you are able to pump out your body training exercises like a professional, then you are ready for weight and resistance training. Depending upon your body type and desire for body type, the method of gym training for your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey differs. To plainly put it, if you want to put on muscle size and increase strength, you will use more weight with fewer repetitions; if you are solely concerned about core strength and toning your body, then you will use less weight and more repetitions. Deciding upon what body type you want is the easiest part of a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey. With either method, use the pyramid set structure. This means to increase your weight with each set of the exercise, and complete 3 sets per exercise. Refer to my fitness tuning website, listed below, if further information is needed regarding healthy weight loss and quick weight loss exercises or exercise techniques.

During Phase II of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey, remember to use your head. When you are starting a new exercise for the first time, use an extremely light weight. Not only will this ensure that you don’t injure yourself doing the exercise, but it will also allow you to use proper form for the exercise from the very beginning. Achieving a healthy weight loss and quick weight loss is impossible if you injure yourself in the gym. In fact, a gym injury can set your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss exercise program back weeks, even months. Remember, if you can’t do ten repetitions of your third set of an exercise, that’s ok as well. As long as you can do ten repetitions of the first two sets of the exercise, then eventually your strength will build enough for you to do ten repetitions of the third exercise. This is the fitness tuning method of Phase II of your healthy weight loss and a quick weight loss, and has been working for fitness enthusiasts for years.

The gym portion of your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss is simple. You do three exercises per muscle group, and do two muscle groups per day. This means you can do chest and triceps the first day, back and biceps the second day, and legs and shoulders the third day. Finish your exercise routines off on those three days with twenty or thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise. On the fourth day, do only abdominal exercises, unless you are working your abdominal muscles on the other three days along with the other muscle groups. If this is the case, then the fourth day is a complete day of rest. In order to be completely successful in your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss journey, you must give your body time to recuperate. You are giving your body the nutrients that it needs to recuperate from your healthy weight loss and quick weight loss efforts, but the last ingredient is rest.

Simple Steps To Boost Your Metabolism And Burn More Fat

Phen375

Hate dieting? You’re not alone. If there’s one thing most people dread more than anything, cutting calories is it.
But, if you want to lose weight and tone up your body, you know that you must consume fewer calories each day than you burn off. Now, rather than focusing on continually decreasing your calorie intake, how about you focus on the other element of that equation – increasing your daily output?
This is a far more effective and enjoyable way to lose weight and if you go about it in the right manner, will produce superior results as well. If you use the follow simple tips you can quickly increase your metabolic rate, which is what determines how many calories you body burns off daily.
Get it revved up to very high levels and you’ll be able to eat more food and still see the weight loss you’re looking for.
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, pay attention to the following ideas.
Eat More Protein
The very first thing that you should do if you want to ramp up your metabolism instantly is to eat more protein. Many women unfortunately don’t get enough protein with their fat loss diet and this really causes them to see a decline in results.
For every 100 calories worth of protein rich food that you eat, your body will actually only ‘net’ about 75 of those calories. If you were to take in those same 100 calories worth of carbs or dietary fats however, you would net at total of 94 or 98 of those calories. See the difference?
By eating protein rich foods more often you’re essentially boosting your metabolic rate by 25% so this is a very fast and effective way to melt fat faster.
Perform High Intensity Exercise
Second, the next thing that you should do to elevate your metabolism is to perform higher intensity exercise. The great thing about high intensity exercise is not only is it going to whip you into shape faster, but it’ll dramatically reduce the time you have to spend in the gym as well.
If you’re doing a high intensity workout, whether it’s with your cardio training or your weight lifting workout session, you can get in and out of the gym in as little as 20-25 minutes. For anyone with a busy schedule, this is definitely the way to go.
What’s more is that after that high intensity workout, your metabolism will stay elevated for up to 48 hours. This means you’ll be burning more fat while watching your favorite TV show later on in the evening.
Use An Appropriate Metabolic Increasing Supplement
The third way to increase your metabolism is to consider an effective supplement that works to stimulate the metabolism so you burn more calories at all times. Phen375 is one example of a proven supplement that can speed the rate of weight loss, while also providing you with more energy.
Remember that supplements should always be used with a proper fat burning diet and workout program, but when you do pair the three together, you simply will not beat the fat loss results that take place.
So there you have three of the top ways to increase how many calories your body burns on a daily basis so you don’t have to succumb to food portions so small they wouldn’t feed a five year old. If you can look at this side of the fat loss equation instead, you’re going to find the process of weight loss that much more manageable and may actually enjoy it!

There Truly Are Real Ways To Eat Yourself Slim

Phen375

Lots of people try and shed weight every year.  Regrettably, whether they try to find fast methods to lose weight or are willing to try and do it gradually, not many manage to accomplish it.  Why then, you could ask, is the success rate for successful weight-loss so low?

One can find many reasons, but the most important must be because people don’t know how.  Furthermore, they don’t understand how because they don’t have the correct information.  It’s like attempting to bake a cake without the proper recipe and ingredients.  You can give it a jolly good go and throw a whole lot of things together, but chances are it’s not likely to taste anything like it should.  On the other hand, use a great recipe etc. and voila, a great cake!

Many people are afraid they’ll look like idiots if they confess they need help. But, wouldn’t you rather find the help you require start your weight reducing program armed with all the proper facts?   No doubt, having all of the facts you need provide you with an enormous head start and permit you to lose fat and become healthier and happier.

Folks have a tendency to blame their weight gain on a a variety of factors, but the fact is, we get fat because we eat the wrong foods in the incorrect quantities.  Now, when you think about it, shouldn’t doing it another way correct matters?  In other words, eating the proper foods in the right quantities at the appropriate times?

Strict diets of any type DO NOT WORK

Our bodies are magnificent and if we treat them with the necessary respect, it is going to reward us many times over.

Eating only Low Fat Foods WON’T Work

Although eating “low fat” foods have become extremely popular over the last 15 years roughly, people have gotten heavier the whole time.  What does that tell you?  Common sense says that only eating low fat meals are not the way to go to lose weight permanently.

Cutting Calories Don’t Work

The most terrible thing you can do when trying to reduce weight is to cut calories below what your body needs.  You might experience you lose two or three pounds during the first few days of calorie restriction. Soon after though, you stop reducing weight completely and wonder why.  By limiting your calorie intake, and starving your system, really the only thing you accomplish would be to slow your Metabolism down and destroy any chance of success. Rather than being the fat burning furnace it could be, your metabolism would compensate by slowing down and storing all the more fat.

Low Carb Diets DO NOT WORK.

It?s unlikely that you’re going to get slim on a low carb diet.  Low carb diets are hard to keep to for most ordinary people. You deprive your body of essential nutrients normally obtained from carbs and this could cause a significant dip in energy. After a while you just can?t keep it up, you start eating carbs again and, guess what, back comes any fat you may have lost.

Sometimes people try all the above diets without success and then give up totally.  They live the rest of their lives fat, unhealthy and unhappy.

Take heart, it doesn’t matter what dieting experiences you’ve had prior to now, you can get rid of the fat by manipulating your system and “training” it to burn calories at a faster rate than you take it in.

When your body starts working harder to burn calories at a quicker rate, you Lose weight.

By eating the proper foods you could literally eat yourself slender.

The result?  A thinner, healthier, happier YOU!

Carbs – Beneficial Vs Evil

Phen375

Carbs happen to be put into the spotlight from the moment diet plans such as Atkin’s Diet program as well as South Beach Diet have endorsed lowering carbohydrates out of your foods as much as possible. However, when you produce extreme options about what food items to add and not add, it is essential to educate yourself about carbs and what they do for your physique.

In a nutshell, carbohydrates could be good or even harmful to your system. It is necessary to consume sufficient good carbohydrates, because that is just how your body has sufficient vitality for low-intensity activities in daytime. Carbs are famously present in breads and grains, but actually they’ve also been found in many other foods too, such as fruits and vegetables. When trying to keep an eye on the intake of carbs it is very important discern the good from the harmful.

GoodCarbs are usually an important element of the diet plan if you want to have the best food to lose weight fast.

Just about all carbohydrates are essentially sugars. Elaborate carbohydrates are the good carbohydrates for the physique. These strings of sugars are very tough to digest and trap over nutrients such as vitamins and minerals inside sugar strings. Because they slowly digest, the other nutrients are also produced into the body, and you can perform with fuel for a number of hours.

Harmful carbs, on the other hand, are very simple sugar. Since their system isn’t complex, it is easy to break down and hold small nutrients to your system other than the sugar from which it is produced. Your system reduces these carbs rather quickly and what cannot utilize is converted to extra fat and kept inside system. Keeping away from simple carbohydrates is actually just what most diets suggest, since they have small nutritional value when compared to complex carbs.

Moreover than precisely how carbs function inside the human body and the difference in between good carbs and harmful carbs is the way to basically eat most of these carbohydrates! 1st, consume numerous fruits and vegetables. All these foods include carbs, and also a variety of different nutrients required by your system. One more good idea is always to cut the white bread and bread goods from your diet plan and substitute them with whole wheat grains or 12-grain breads instead. Look at the packaging. Foods abundant with fibers are usually a source of good carbohydrates.

Understanding the difference among beneficial and harmful carbohydrates is very important if you need to purchase foods to eat to lose weight quickly. It is not beneficial for your body to cut out carbs completely—in fact, that’s very difficult to try and do unless you only eat various meats! Consuming a proper and well balanced diet plan means including good carbs in to your diet.

Fat Burner – Your Solution to Overeating

Phen375

Why do people get fat? Have you ask yourself why you reached that size where your pants can now fit two people without any problem. Do not be surprised if I tell you that the reasons you are overweight is because you tend to overeat. Not to forget the fact that your lifestyle of no exercise also added to your problem. Finally you are probably eating a lot of fast food or processed foods and an excessive amount of fats and sugars.

Overeating is simply the problem for most people and this is the reason why you are fat. In fact, not one nutritionist would recommend that you eat as much as you like or advised you to binge on almost any sort of food regardless if it’s oily, fatty or way too sweet. Self control is something we have to learn , our brain receives pleasure from food but our bodies receive more fat cells. What you will hear doctors, nutritionist, gym instructors and health fitness fanatics say  over and over again is to eat proportions of food eat regularly six times per day is recommended but not six plates full of food , learn to eat often but much less and then exercise at least take a walk around the block to start . As a matter of fact, if you can do it without any aid such as diet pills so much the better but do not expect immediate results as losing weight is not an overnight thing.

The problem with overeating is the fact that food or calories that have not been burned become stored calories to be used at a later time i.e. fat is added to the body. Because of so many different factors food exercise all play a part in excess weight or body fat. So if you can control what you eat or suppress your appetite which a lot of people find hard to do, you will be able to consume lesser calories and make your lose weight a bit faster, effective and safe.
So how can you control your appetite? Through the help of an appetite suppressant you will be able to control overeating. I hate to say this, but since people are weak for the good and bad foods it sometimes necessary to consider external help such as fat burner to make it easier.
Phentemine375 is the best diet pills that will not just help you suppress your appetite but will also ensure that you get slimmer every week by 3 lbs to 5 lbs on average weekly if you follow the manufacture instructions for the product. This new product that burns fat, increase metabolic rate, increase energy level and manufactured in an FDA approved laboratory is the perfect aid for you. Why? Because in just over 6 weeks or less you can lose an average of 25 lbs. Now if that is not enough reason to consider Phen375 as the best diet fat burning pills currently available on the market in 2010, I do not know what “best” means anymore.
Furthermore, aside from proven effectiveness of Phen375 the cost is so affordable, and if you can spend $ 3.00 on things that aggravate your weight condition there is no rationale explanations why you cannot spend $ 2.30 daily for something that will make your weight lose program work faster.
Keep in mind that controlling overeating is not easy because if it is, then there is no cause for worry about your weight. So consider your option and think about Phen375.
